Eugene, Oregon (AP) Tonight the Ducks got off to a fast start against the Wolfpack of North Carolina State, when on the second play of the game when Hawkins took a bubble screen about 60 yards for a Touchdown.
Big plays would be the mantra of the game as both teams would strike touchdowns on big plays through the air, as their was no real pass defense in this one folks.
The Ducks though were able to get a few more breaks and big plays go their way in this 48 - 27 victory.
Including a play Coach Doc was irate about for at least a quarter, when his TE caught a 50 yard pass down the middle of the field went four more yards was then tackle, and laid the ball on the turf, which the refs seconds later would call an incomplete pass. This play probably changed the whole game as it disrupted the Wolfpack momentum and allowed the Ducks to take a 21 to 7 lead just a few plays later.
Marcus Mariota lead the way for the Ducks by completing 16 of 17 passes (his lone incompletion somehow coming on an errand screen pass) 312 yards and 5 touchdowns.
Thomas was injured late in the 4th quarter but the wolfpack did a solid job in limiting the All American to 75 yards rushing on 17 attempts, limiting Thomas to 3.1 yards under his Yards per carry average of 7.5 of a season ago.
On defense, defensive back Mitchel picked off the qb once despite being burnt numerous times, while Defensives Ends Taylor Hart and Tony Washington pick up where they left off last season with a sack apiece.
