Re: Playstation Vue/Youtube TV/Hulu+
Yeah, I don't blame you.
I would do it easily if it would save that kind of money.
We get fantastic internet service out here in the country. Way more than I could get in Cleveland, but it is not exactly cheap.
I have 150 Mbps service.
It is $70 per month without their cable package.
If I was a new customer, I could get 60 Mbps internet for $39.99 per month for the first 12 months, then it is $74.95 per month after that.
Then add in cable on top of that, so if you add in the $50 for PSVue, that is $90 per month for the first 12 months and then $125 per month after that.
We pay about $135 per month now after all taxes, fees, 2nd Cable box, etc. and I get 150 Mbps.
So I might as well keep what I have and have the faster internet speeds

I think it came down to Shels wife as well and it didn’t go so well due to a Teen Mom issue.
Good luck to you!

Though what it really came down to is me just being too lazy to make a move.

Yep. It's just called The Challenge now, and they've branched out. It's still probably mostly the same old Road Rules/Real World vets even you'd recognize from 10 years ago, but nowadays they also have former Big Brother contestants and other people from other random MTV reality shows they have now.Cnasty wrote:That I know!

Sounds like something Seeit’s wife would like.
He is going to meet the same fate as you did with the switch.
Sorry Dan.

Holy shit! Hell, there's probably still half the same folks on their 32nd challenge...Cnasty wrote:That I know!

She gave me the green light.
DirecTV gave an enticing offer to stay (even though I was prepared to just tell them to stuff all their "bonuses". They offered roughly $60 off a month for a year, which after the math works out to be about $588 over the year. + The standard offer of 1/2 off Sunday Ticket, which I would have just pilfered the streaming account off of my parents for and paid them for half of theirs
So save $980 by switching to Vue, and lose TV/DVR if we lose internet connection for any reason
Or, stay, and save $588 by staying exactly the same, and lose TV but NOT DVR when we lose Satellite because, Florida.
Basically $400 is the price for keeping DVR if internet drops, Not having to explain a new interface to my wife, and having to share some internet with TV in the case of playing PS4 at the same time as she's watching TV. I already have an apple TV so we're good to go there.

It still records even if your internet goes down, its cloud based. Just an FYISeeitsaveit13 wrote:

You watch that? Buddy I played ball with growing up was on Real World like 10 years ago but apparently still does all the challenges. Zach Nicholsshel311 wrote:I bet you'd know if I said the Real World vs Road Rules Challenge.Cnasty wrote:I don’t even know what that is!!!

I know of it cause it's always a season going on it seems. I tried to watch with the wife on the current season but quit about 3 episodes in.Weasel wrote:You watch that? And that Dude Zach is one of the main vets currently on all of the shows, he's on the one airing now.

I just meant the ability to use. Currently, satellite goes out, we switch to netflix or DVR'd stuff.Cnasty wrote:It still records even if your internet goes down, its cloud based. Just an FYISeeitsaveit13 wrote:

If internet goes out, we'd be dead in the water and have to play a board game or talk to each other or go outside or something...
Jokes aside, the only drawback is if that type of thing happens while I'm gone for 21 days and I have to talk her through troubleshooting over the phone or she just doesn't have TV while she's stuck at home alone. That's the real opportunity cost here. I can fix things when I'm here.

Would never use appletv. How do the others work?Seeitsaveit13 wrote:Fire stick, roku, apple tv, any of those will workGeorgesGoons wrote:My 75" has the ability to play Vue from it by itself. How do I get my other TV's to work with it? I can hook up my 2nd PS4 down in the basement to work that one. But the one in the room and my knuckleheads tv would need something. Don't say firestick, cuz I will have more questions on how that works.

Re: Playstation Vue/Youtube TV/Hulu+
Roku and Firestick have a remote that comes with them.
You plug them directly into an HDMI port and power it off the USB on your tv, if it has one. That way when the tv shuts off, it shuts off.
Chromecast is the same except your phone is the remote.
Roku and Firestick have apps built into them. So you want to play PSVue, it is an app that you download/access on those devices. Grab the remote, navigate the menus and choose the application that you want to load.
Very similar to an app on your phone.
For the Chromecast, it is a little different as the app needs to be on your phone and compatible with the Chromecast. If it is, there is a little symbol

If it has that symbol, you can choose that, then choose your chromecast and it then is displayed on your tv.
From that perspective, Roku and Firestick is probably easier.

Re: Playstation Vue/Youtube TV/Hulu+
The advantage with the chromecast is that if I am using the google chrome browser, you can cast any internet window from your browser.
With that said, not all of them work great, but it is possible.
So that is what I do with the reddit links I posted.
I bring them up on my desktop pc, I get past the ads and then cast it to my chromecast. Once it shows up, I click on the fullscreen button and done. It is full screen, HD quality, of just about any sporting event that I have wanted to watch so far.

like youtube. do that all the time to watch movie trailers to see what we want to go see (and then never go see the movies because I hate theaters)The_Niddler wrote:

Re: Playstation Vue/Youtube TV/Hulu+
So what was the verdict here?
I am looking into this again.
Sling TV - $45 per month - seems to have all the channels we need including Disney Jr. and Nick Jr. for my kids.
Potentially Fox and NBC local channels.
$5 per month for Cloud DVR.
PSVue Core - $50 per month - No Nick Jr., but has RedZone for NFL season.
Only Fox local channels for my area.
Some DVR restrictions
YouTube TV - $40 per month - No Nick Jr.
ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC local channels for my area. No NFL Network
Unlimited DVR.
DirecTV Now - $55 per month - Has all the channels I would want.
No local channels for my area, but it does include an ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC channel.
20 Hours of DVR.
2 streams at once. $5 per month for a 3rd stream.
I could do $40 per month until football season.
Then go up to the $55 package to add NFL Network, BTN, SEC, MLB Network, ESPNU and ESPN News (also adds: Travel and Tennis, Weather, Science, OWN, Nicktoons, Justice Central, IFC, GSN, Fusion, Fuse and Cooking Channel,
Philo TV - $16 per month - No Disney Jr.
No local channels, No sports channels.
Unlimited DVR.
Xfinity internet is $40 per month for 60 Mbps.
Frontier internet is $30 per month for 18 Mbps.
Xfinity has a deal, $80 per month for 150 Mbps and 210+ channels.
This is the channel lineup and Internet speeds I have now. This is without DVR and only the 1 box.
My bill now is $132 per month total that includes DVR service.

Re: Playstation Vue/Youtube TV/Hulu+
Have had Vue during football season the last 3 years and I have tried them all minus YTTV and it easily is the best interface, performance, and price for what you get imo.
I cancel it once the Super Bowl is over as we really don't watch enough TV to justify any cable and we use only netflix/hbo/apps etc.

Also, they all have free trials. Why not try them all and pick from there?
