Jax State Chaos Win vs La Tech

Article By: Lsumavsman

In a game that was rescheduled to a week early because coach znicol has to leave little ol New Jersey for a week, this one had everything—bombs, blunders, bad decisions, and a final score that made Vegas cry. Jacksonville State walked into Ruston as a 17-point underdog and walked out with a 52-49 win in one of the most chaotic, ridiculous, and wildly entertaining games the NDL’s ever seen (not that coach znicol would know, he's only been in the league for like a month).

Jax State QB Tyler Huff played like someone trying to speedrun a rollercoaster—367 yards, 4 TDs, 3 picks, and a fumble. Just vibes. He hit WR2 Cam Vaughn for 158 yards and a TD, while TE Sean Brown grabbed 2 scores of his own and probably adopted a La Tech safety afterward. Tre Stewart, usually the workhorse, was quieter (16 for 91 and 2 TDs), but still found the end zone twice from about a foot away each time.

Louisiana Tech racked up 538 yards and threw for 471, but managed to go 2-for-11 on third down and turned it over three times, because why not. Jax State said “hold my Gatorade” and coughed it up four times, including three Huff picks and a “why-is-he-in?” fumble by the backup RB at the 21 while about to score.

The second quarter was straight out of a video game: 53 total points, three interceptions, a pick-six by Zechariah Poyser, an 85-yard bomb from Evan Bullock, a fake field goal for two, a deep Huff bomb, and then somehow, a defensive TD with eight seconds left in the half.

The second half settled into a more reasonable pace—just some touchdowns, a missed hands team on an onside kick (which Jax still somehow recovered), a clutch field goal, and a couple sacks by a fired-up Jax front seven.

Fred Perry had himself a day—12 tackles, 2 picks, and probably a key to the city waiting for him when they land. Poyser’s pick-six flipped the game, and Swain helped bring the heat late to shut the door.

La Tech added a too-little-too-late score with 18 seconds left, but the onside kick was recovered and Jax State took the knee and the dub.

Final tally: 101 combined points, seven turnovers, and one very dead -17 spread. The over (68.5) hit sometime in the parking lot.
