Block 1 Review
Article By: Welcome to the most unhinged, chaotic, and straight-up confusing Block 1 of Big 12 football in the history of College Football 25. What started as a calm, manageable week of digital football quickly descended into madness, upsets, and stat lines that make you question the laws of physics. Let’s dive into the Block 1 highlights—where defenses score more than offenses, coaches defy aging, and statements were made loud and clear.
BYU Stuns North Carolina in Provo: A Game That Defied Logic, Science, and Basic Math
BYU 49, North Carolina 42
In what can only be described as a fever dream wrapped in a pigskin, BYU pulled off the upset of the block by taking down Coach PacksyD’s ranked North Carolina squad in front of a rowdy Provo crowd. Despite UNC casually dropping 600 yards of offense like it was a scrimmage, BYU somehow won the game thanks to a defense that was either elite or absolutely allergic to tackling—there’s really no in-between.
Let’s break this down:
7 turnovers forced
3 defensive touchdowns
Still gave up 6 touchdowns
It’s the kind of defensive performance that makes you simultaneously want to hand out game balls and hold an emergency team meeting.
BYU led by 17 in the 4th quarter before UNC decided to turn into a cheat code themselves, storming back into striking distance. Thankfully for Cougar Nation, the onside kick went BYU’s way and the kneel-downs sealed the chaos
The Cougars did just enough on offense (and when we say "just enough," we mean they got outscored by their own defense). But the MVP of the day? That would be Parker Kingston, the human joystick who housed a kick return and snagged a deep ball for a touchdown. He looked like he activated cheat codes.
Offensive Player of the Game
Parker Kingston — 1 Reception, 70 Yards, 1 TD; 5 Kick Returns, 181 Yards, 1 TD
Defensive Player of the Game
Micah Harper — 10 Tackles, 2 INTs, 1 Fumble Recovery, 1 Pick 6
(Basically played linebacker, safety, and the role of chaos itself.)
With this W, BYU catapulted themselves into the top 25 for Block 2, and we’re officially putting the rest of the Big 12 on BYUpset Alert.
Iowa State Shocks Iowa in the CyHawk Showdown
Iowa State 35, Iowa 28
Just when you thought the madness was over, in comes FSUpenguin, the coach with what might be the biggest caffeine addiction we have seen and the coaching savvy of a NDL vet. In a game that had rivalry blood, grit, and what we could expect to be more conservative play calls than a 1950s playbook, Iowa State took down Big Red’s Hawkeyes in a banger.
The win not only knocked Iowa to a disastrous 0-2 start, but it also sent FSUpenguin into full nostalgia mode. Channeling the energy of his Season 1 youth, he out-schemed and outplayed a team that was supposed to dominate the trenches.
Colorado Silences the SEC with a 48-14 Beatdown in Lexington
Colorado 48, Kentucky 14
We all expected Coach Andy to have a solid team in Colorado, but nobody expected him to open the season by kicking in the front door of the SEC, tossing Kentucky around like a ragdoll, and leaving with a 34-point W like it was just another Tuesday.
Things didn’t start great—Sanders got sacked twice and Kentucky took a 14-7 lead thanks to a shanked punt and some SEC swagger. But then came the Silmon-Craig Show, where he:
Jumped a flat route for a pick-six
Picked off another pass literally one play later
Set up Colorado for back-to-back touchdowns and a 28-14 halftime lead
After that? All Buffs. Sanders turned into Joe Burrow at LSU:
26-of-29, 352 yards, 4 TDs. Just surgical.
Hood was the utility weapon that Kentucky couldn’t track:
25 touches, 161 total yards, 3 TDs.
Travis Hunter joined the party late with a back-breaking 50-yard RPO touchdown, and a couple field goals added salt to the wound. By the end, Kentucky was waving a white flag and reconsidering its conference affiliation.
Block 1 Takeaways:
BYU might be the Big 12's new chaos agent.
FSUpenguin is back—and we mean YOUNG Season 1 back.
Colorado is terrifying, and Andy isn’t fazed by expectations.
Block 2 better bring a fire extinguisher because the Big 12 is heating up. Stay tuned. Stay safe. And remember: Never schedule BYU if you are PettyD. Ever.
