While the overall series record suggests Iowa is firmly in control of this rivalry, analyzing the series results suggests that they were for a portion of time but overall this has been an evenly fought battle.
The Iowa Hawkeyes won seven straight games between S14 and S20 but prior to that Iowa went just 7-6 against Iowa State and since that long Hawkeyes winning streak, Iowa holds just a 6-5 advantage over the Cyclones.
Iowa coach Wildes dominated rival Iowa State in NDL S31, winning 31-0 last season to give Iowa the recent upper hand before moving on to Lubbock, Texas to coach the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
