SMU to Host Auburn Week One
Article By: DALLAS, TEXAS -- The SMU Mustangs will open NDL S32 with a familiar foe.
Last season in Auburn, the Mustangs and Tigers played a classic game that saw the Mustangs claw back from a late ten point deficit to tie the game only to give up a deep touchdown pass with just seconds left.
The pass defense issues and the loss to Auburn led SMU into a tail spin and a 1-4 start to NDL S32 before SMU corrected course and finished 8-5 with a Sun Bowl victory.
This season they will open with the Tigers again at Gerald Ford Stadium in Dallas.
It will be the fourth all-time matchup between the head coach of Auburn, SnealShiesty, and SMU head coach Block M. Last seasons close win marked the third straight one possession game between the two coaches in a series that has stretched from Dallas all the way to Jacksonville, Alabama when SnealShiesty and Block M were the head coaches of Florida International and Jacksonville State respectively.
SnealShiesty leads the series 2-1 all-time.
SMU's remaining opponents for NDL S32 are yet to be determined outside of a rivalry clash with TCU across the metroplex in week four.
