Mountain West Title Race Outlook
Article By: MOUNTAIN WEST CONFERENCE RACE HEATS UP !
This MWC may be the most competitive conference in the NDL. Stick around to see how it all plays out !!!
As we enter week 11/12 the Mountain West Conference has six teams who can still claim the conference.
1. SAN DIEGO ST
Coach Big Z looks to be the front runner as he sets 3-0 in the conference with his Aztecs. SDSU has probably the easiest schedule left out of the teams who are in title talk contention as they travel to Utah State ( 0-5 ) and UNLV (0-5) and have New Mexico St ( 5-4) along with USAF (3-4) at home.
2. FRESNO STATE
The Bulldogs from Fresno State and Coach Chase are nipping at the Aztecs ass at 3-1. The Dawgs have just 2 conference games remaining…. A trip to Colorado Springs to face an Air Force team ( whose only loss at home was to Ohio St ) and then get a home game with a coach less Colorado St team. Fresno needs to win out and hope for a SDSU upset somewhere along the lines. It’s a felony these two juggernauts missed each other in the regular season.
3. BOISE STATE
The team sitting in 3rd is a surprise to most the conference. The Broncos (3-1 ) was the preseason favorite in most of the conference coaches eyes. The Broncos loss to SDSU on the blue turf was a disappointing defeat, but at 3-1 they aren’t completely out of it just yet. Boise and Coach ROC get an inconsistent Nevada team at home, then a couple tricky road games against San Jose St and Wyoming… Both teams are capable of winning on their home field. In my opinion if they don’t look past any games they should finish strong.
4. NEW MEXICO
The Lobos and Coach Bearass (3-2) are the surprise of the conference in my opinion. A bad loss to Colorado St. is the only black eye on their conference resume . The Bo’s road gets rocky in week 11 as they travel to the conference leader for a showdown. If Coach Bear can’t pull off an upset any chances of a conference championship is all but over.
5. NEVADA
The Wolf-Pack (2-2) and Coach Gray might be the most interesting team in the conference. Interesting or inconsistent? The Pack beats Fresno State, but loses to the Spartans and Warriors who have a combined 3 conference wins. Nevada is a long shot , but with a favorable schedule don’t rule this team out just yet.
6. AIR FORCE
The Falcons and coach Ank (2-2) may be mathematically still in the race, but have a schedule of demons remaining. The Falcons could still win the conference, but need to knock off Fresno at home then have to travel to Reno to face Nevada and at unbeaten San Diego St. that’s a lot to ask of any team.
