"I still have no clue why, but for some reason I hit L1..."
This week, we sit down with Miami's dealer4014, whose 178 wins and deep connection to The U make him one of the ACC's most established voices.
Q: What drew you to Miami and the ACC?
A: The Canes have been my team for almost 42 years—my entire life. When I got the #5 pick in that Season 29 Draft, I asked if they would fall to me. DCane at #1 was my main worry—I definitely appreciate him not drafting them there!
Q: Tell us about your coaching philosophy.
A: On offense, I'd say run to open the passing game. Defensively, I like to mix it up - all-out blitz, zones, Cover 1, whatever might force a turnover.
Q: What's your strategy this season?
A: My biggest goal was trying to repeat as ACC Champion and make it back to the CFP, but after being blown out by Louisville, that's probably done. Goal #2 is always trying to keep the Canes.
Q: What is the most meaningful rivalry game?
A: Beating FSU always means more with that rivalry.
Q: What is your most memorable NDL moment?
A: (laughing) My absolute choke job last year in the CFP against South Carolina. Had the interception to end the game and advance to the Semi-Finals. I still have no clue why, but for some reason, I hit L1 and lateraled the ball from one sideline back to the middle of the field to have a South Carolina WR pick it up and run it into the end zone for the win.
Q: What initially brought you to the NDL?
A: I joined in Season 14 after hearing about it at work from Kegr8er. When I heard the game was coming back, I signed up as quickly as I could!
Q: How do you prepare for games?
A: I started this last season. I go in and look over the other teams' rosters just to get an idea of their players' ratings. I do this for all teams, really. I feel like that helped in part of my turnaround from Season 29 to Season 30.
Q: Which ACC coach do you most admire?
A: I'd say VTrunNgun. He's got National Championships and Cup Championships on his resume.
Editor's Note: With 178 wins, 2 Conference Championships, and a 17-10 record over two seasons at Miami, dealer4014's connection to The U runs deeper than just fandom. Despite that memorable CFP lateral, his preparation and consistency have made him one of the ACC's most respected voices.
