ACC Coach's Corner TheRealDray30
Article By: "Once I saw the rumors of NCAA coming back, I tagged as many old head NDL'ers on Facebook and asked if we were getting the band back together!"
Q: What drew you to Wake Forest and the ACC?
A: At pick 72, they seemed to be the most talented team with a manageable win goal. Solid RB and DE. Plus, I'm trying to coach every team in a conference, so ACC is looking like the best route for that.
Q: Tell us about your coaching philosophy.
A: Old gen, I was all about 2 TE sets, under center, with a little shotgun mixed in. When this new version dropped, playbooks were like all shotgun/pistol with limited under center run sets. It's been an adjustment. Just when I start getting comfortable on offense, EA drops an update and changes how everything feels.
Defense is usually bend-but-don't-break, trying to make opponents make mistakes on long drives. Though that hasn't been great for me so far!
Q: Strategy for this season?
A: (laughing) Hope and prayer. Just trying to play more consistently and finish games.
Q: Most meaningful rivalry games?
A: For Wake Forest, I'd say UNC and Duke.
Q: Your most memorable NDL moment?
A: Goes back to my first season with San Jose State. Last game of the season against Fresno State. Played my best game of the season, which springboarded me up in the draft. Grabbed Oregon and eventually led to getting my Dawgs for a few seasons.
Q: What brought you back to NDL?
A: When NCAA rumors started, I tagged every old head NDL'er I could find on Facebook asking if we were getting the band back together! Once it became reality, I had to come back. It's literally the only game I truly enjoy on PS5.
Q: How do you prepare for big games?
A: (grinning) Lots of prayer and hoping not to get blown out!
Editor's Note: TheRealDray30 brings 177 wins of NDL experience to Wake Forest, along with a realistic outlook on their 84 OVR rating and 3-win goal. His ability to adapt to changing gameplay mechanics while maintaining his sense of humor makes him a valuable addition to the ACC's coaching ranks.
