A look at the MW top 25

San Diego sneaks into the top 25 at 24. The Aztecs are 4-1 thru 5 NDL games and may be the best team in the conference. The Aztecs running game needs to be feared by its MWC foes. The 2 headed monster of Cooper & Christon have already eclipsed the 1000 yard mark on the season. Marquez Cooper leads the conference with 700 yards and 9 touchdowns. Coach BigZ and his Tecs lead the conference in scoring, rushing, first downs and scoring margin.

The defense is not the best , but definitely good enough to shut down many of the MWC foes left on their schedule. Eric Butler and J.D. Coffee are the leaders on this defense for Coach Z. Butler leads the team with 30 tackles on the year , while Coffee has 2 interceptions and a score on the young season. Although their stats aren’t eye-popping.. the leadership has definitely elevated this defense above all expectations.

San Diego State has a few tough games coming up that could make or break their season as they get the powerful Coogs from Washington State at home, then a trip to hostile Boise, which may be too much for any MWC team. If the Aztecs can somehow get past those 2 games the rest of the season looks very favorable to make a push towards a conference championship game.
