ACC Coach's Corner: The Ghost
Article By: In this week's Coach's Corner, we sit down with Syracuse's veteran coach, Ghost of Pauley Pavilion, who brings 19 seasons of NDL experience and a refreshingly authentic perspective to the Orange.
Q: What drew you to Syracuse and the ACC?
A: (chuckling) I'll be totally honest - I'm not even a huge college football fan. I'm more of an NFL guy, Rams specifically. Syracuse just seemed like a fun team with some quality players. That's really it.
Q: Tell us about your coaching philosophy.
A: Most people know me as a college basketball coach, but there's more to the story. I played high school football under a well-known coach, served as both head coach and assistant at the high school level, and my dad was a college football coach. I try to keep it realistic - mix up my calls like I would if I was coaching in real life.
Q: What's your strategy this season with Syracuse?
A: (laughing) Well... EA did us zero favors with this team. They're really good in real life, not so much in the game - or maybe it's just me. So my strategy? ZERO. Just have fun, be tough to play against, and see what happens.
Q: Which rivalry game means the most to you?
A: All of them. Rival games are huge. They don't like my guys, and my guys don't like them. Simple as that.
Q: Your most memorable NDL moment?
A: Going 8-3 with Marshall in Season 2. That was the last time I really took video games seriously and had time to be decent at them. (smiling) But you know what? I came back because I'm a Season 1 NDL vet. This league has been a blessing - I've made friends I've known for years, even bought my cars from an NDL guy. It's not about the football game anymore.
Q: How do you prepare for big games?
A: (laughing) Look at my record... 69-173. Not sure I've been in many big games for a video game.
Q: Which ACC coach do you most admire?
A: My dude Chase (VTrunNgun) at Virginia Tech. Champion and a winner... (grinning) He better say me when you ask him, or this love affair is OVER.
Editor's Note: While his 2-10 record last season might not turn heads, Ghost of Pauley Pavilion represents something special about the NDL - the relationships built beyond the virtual gridiron. As Syracuse aims to improve on their 85 OVR rating and 4-win goal, their veteran coach reminds us that sometimes the biggest victories don't show up on the scoreboard.Last edited 3 minutes ago
