ACC Coach's Corner:
Article By: "I want Phil Mafah to be buried underneath the stadium"
In this week's ACC Coach's Corner, we sit down with Clemson's new head coach Elefebigrump, who brings youth, passion, and a 10-3 record from Kentucky to Death Valley. The high school senior has already made waves in the NDL, and now he's living his dream at his future college of choice.
Q: What drew you to Clemson and the ACC?
A: (laughing) I'm a die-hard Clemson fan. When I first joined the NDL in season 29, I was actually hoping to draft them, but ended up with a pick in the 100s. I've been waiting for this opportunity ever since. They're my #1 choice for college too, so this feels right.
Q: Tell us about your coaching philosophy.
A: I'm pretty conservative - I like to establish the run early. At Kentucky, my strategy was to force defenses to commit to stopping the ground game, then let my receivers work in one-on-one situations. Things might look a bit different at Clemson, but at my core, I'm a run-first coach who uses that to set up everything else.
Q: With a 90 OVR team and high expectations, what's your strategy this season?
A: (grinning) Run Phil Mafah into the ground. I'm not even joking - I want him buried underneath the stadium. With so many talented coaches in this conference, I believe controlling the clock and establishing the run game gives us the best shot at hitting our 10-win goal.
Q: Which rivalry game means the most to you?
A: While it's not officially listed as a rivalry, I'm really looking forward to facing Louisville - my buddy groovy is there. But speaking of official rivalries, the South Carolina game is huge. It's massive in real life, and personally, I'd love some revenge against the SEC. Taking that one to finish the season would be special.
Q: Your most memorable NDL moment so far?
A: (eyes lighting up) It was one of my first games - Temple versus Western Kentucky. Down by 7 with 14 seconds left, I threw up a prayer for a long touchdown. Then with 5 seconds left, I'm in prevent defense, and wasted memory throws a pick that my DB returns for six to end it. Talk about a wild way to start an NDL career!
Editor's Note: Elefebigrump brings a 34-6 overall record and a conference championship to Clemson. After leading Kentucky to a 10-3 record in the SEC, all eyes are on how this young coaching prodigy will handle the expectations in Death Valley.
