Big XII Power Rankings
Article By: Finals Week! The last block is about to open and most teams will be down to their final two games of the season. Most of the ground work has been laid but we do have some doozy games coming that will be must watch tv! Once the dust has settled we'll see who will be heading to the Conference Championship Game and who has a shot at the CFP's.
Let's see where we stand for now with our latest version of the Big XII Power Rankings!!!
16. (-) West Virginia Mountaineers 0-10 (0-7) - Well, definitely not last years Mountaineers that made it to the Playoffs. What happened? The 'Eers did have one of the tougher schedules with their combined opponents going 66-28.
15. (-2) UCF Knights 2-7 (1-5) - I thought this team would get it together and make some noise. The win against BYU looked like it might be the kick start they needed, but... Have a good shot at winning two of their last three and quite honestly who knows which Utah team will show up so maybe 3 for 3?
14. (-5) Kansas State Wildcats 4-6 (3-4) - Might be some grief for this, but losses to Houston and Arizona State? This team is in a free fall to end the season and might actually need to be lower than this ranking.
13. (+2) Arizona State Sun Devils 2-7 (1-5) - Pulled the upset victory over K State and could have been rated higher had the team above them not done the same, but more impressively. Another team with a decent chance of winning 2 of their last 3 games.
12. (-) Houston Cougars 3-7 (1-6) - Gets to hang onto the #12 spot. Probably could have moved up one but beating a ranked team helped elevate the team above them. Unfortunately beating K State doesn't look as impressive in the final weeks of the season.
11. (+3) BYU Cougars 3-7 (1-6) - Got a nice rivalry game win over RANKED Utah! Whaaaat? That'll help with the draft position for what has been a mostly miserable season. It was also enough to bump them up to the top of the one conference win teams.
10. (-) Texas Tech Red Raiders 3-7 (2-5) - I mean, not sure what to say. Current four game losing streak but at least it was against good teams.
9. (-1) Oklahoma State Cowboys 5-5 (3-4) - Lost two of their last three games. Still have a shot at a bowl game, but will need to beat Tech at Tech. Colorado will be the back up plan if that fails....
8. (-1) TCU Horned Frogs 7-3 (4-3) - This is a very top heavy conference as evident by this team being the 8th rated team. Their two final games are against Arizona and Cincy. Winnable games, but also very losable. Which TCU team will show up?
7. (-3) Utah Utes 7-3 (4-3) - Back to back losses vs. BYU(?) and Colorado. He has another loss coming this week vs Iowa State and then can finish on a positive note with a victory over UCF. Maybe.
6. (-) Arizona Wildcats 7-3 (5-2) - Sits steady in the ratings despite being in the midst of a three game winning streak. This is a tough conference at the top though and everyone must find a place to fit in and unfortunately they have not beaten anyone rated above them.
5. (-2) Cincinnati Bearcats 8-2 (6-1) - Lost their shot at the CC game with the Iowa State loss. Still a very solid team and should pick up their last two wins before bowl season this week. Will their SoS hurt their chances at a shot in the playoffs?
4. (+1) Colorado Buffaloes 8-2 (5-2) - Could probably argue they deserve at least 3rd, but beating Utah after they just lost to BYU just doesn't carry the same weight it used to. Next up is a real test that could put them at #1 though.
3. (+8) Iowa State Cyclones 8-2 (5-2) - The threat has returned! After a bit of a layoff and sinking to the bottom of the standings the Cyclones have returned and put everyone on notice. Win their last two games and we could be looking at a playoff sleeper.
2. (-) Baylor Bears 10-0 (7-0) - Welp, was going to put them at the one spot after Kansas struggled with Iowa State, but then they had to struggle with West Virginia. That's not how you impress me!
1. (-1) Kansas Jayhawks 10-0 (7-0) - Was heavily tested against Iowa State, but prevailed. Will they be as fortunate against Colorado and Baylor? Can't wait to find out.
