Conference USA Unthankful Thanksgiving
Article By: Conference USA's Unthankful Thanksgiving: The Gripes of Gridiron
While Thanksgiving is usually a time for gratitude, some Conference USA teams have more complaints than cornucopias this season. Let’s take a look at what each coach might be feeling less than thankful for as they reflect on a season of missed opportunities, bruising losses, and questionable stats.
Liberty Flames – Coach Phoneybadge1 (3-4 Overall, 3-0 Conference)
Unthankful for: Quarterback Kaidon Salter’s slippery fingers. Seven fumbles in a season can bring the Flames down faster than you can say “Butterfingers.” Despite a strong conference record, Salter’s ball security issues are a burning concern for Liberty.
MTSU Blue Raiders – Coach Outlaw (2-2 Overall, 1-0 Conference)
Unthankful for: The absolute drubbing they endured in Week 4. A 35-0 shutout by Coach LiQ’s Wyoming team has left a scar, and Outlaw would probably love to pretend that nightmare never happened.
Jax State Gamecocks – Coach Klawdog101 (1-3 Overall, 1-0 Conference)
Unthankful for: An early QB carousel and interception woes. After an 0-2 start, Klawdog101 had to bench his starting quarterback Zion Turner with backup Tyler Huff. It’s been rough for the Gamecocks, whose offense has yet to find any rhythm.
UTEP Miners – Coach Knubb (5-2 Overall, 2-1 Conference)
Unthankful for: A defense that’s letting everyone score at will. Despite boasting the #12 offense in the nation, UTEP ranks last defensively in the conference. It’s hard to mine wins when opponents light up the scoreboard with ease.
Sam Houston Bearkats – Coach OldKyShark (2-4 Overall, 2-1 Conference)
Unthankful for: Jase Bowers’ penchant for interceptions. Fourteen picks are hardly ideal for any team, and now OldKyShark is looking to the backup to stop the bleeding. The turnover tally has stifled the Bearkats' offense and left them scrambling in every game.
LaTech Bulldogs – Coach SgtLingus330 (0-3 Overall, 0-0 Conference)
Unthankful for: A quarterback who’s also... a linebacker? LaTech’s ESPN and NDL-listed starting QB is listed a linebacker, leading to more than a few puzzled looks. SgtLingus330 probably wishes his roster wasn’t so creatively categorized this season.
FIU Golden Panthers – Coach ChillChill79 (2-2 Overall, 0-1 Conference)
Unthankful for: A passing game that’s gone AWOL. With QB Keyone Jenkins throwing for only 261 yards and six interceptions through four games, FIU’s aerial attack is more “crash and burn” than “soar.” Passing challenges have limited their playbook and stalled drives.
Kennesaw State Owls – Coach AwesomeAndrewya (1-2 Overall, 0-1 Conference)
Unthankful for: TE Carsen Kent’s hands—or lack thereof. Kent has his NDL stats listed as two catches to his name but a staggering 24 drops, making his role more of a liability than an asset on the field. AwesomeAndrewya can’t be thrilled about his tight end's butterfingers. Or does he just need to adjust his stats?
New Mexico State Aggies – Coach Oldschoola (0-4 Overall, 0-2 Conference)
Unthankful for: A winless start and opponents’ winning records. Not only are the Aggies winless, but their opponents hold a collective 14-13 record. New Mexico State has been outplayed, and Oldschoola is feeling the heat to turn this season around.
Western Kentucky Hilltoppers – Coach Wasted Memory (3-4 Overall, 0-3 Conference)
Unthankful for: The worst record in conference play despite a respectable overall standing. A 0-3 conference record has WKU sitting at the bottom of C-USA. Wasted Memory has the talent to turn it around in conference play but will he?
As Thanksgiving approaches, these teams will be hoping their fortunes turn. For now, it’s a feast of frustrations and grievances across Conference USA—proving that sometimes, there’s more to gripe about than to give thanks for.
