WEEK 7 SEC MEDIA PICKS
Article By: Conference play is now in full swing, so we’ll start beating each other to separate the men from
the boys. Put the women and children to bed, slap on the headset (and headband if you like), get
yourself comfy, and strap on the seatbelt – I’d recommend tightly.
LET’S PLAY SOME
FOOTBALL!
NOTEABLE NOTES
-Eight ranked SEC teams/
-Five teams without a loss (SC, Bama, Tenn, UF, and Texas).
-LSU dropped their week 3 game to NCSU 42-37. We thought the Tigers may come out of
nowhere, and while they still could, the road just got bumpy.
-Ark removes A&M from the championship equation as two losses are costly this early.
-Dawgs lose to Bama and then escape an upset bid by Auburn.
WEEK 5 PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Alabama kicker
Graham Nicholson. Rare
we’ll have a kicker here, but the kid came through with a clutch performance. The kid made
each of his four field goal attempts and all three of his point after attempts. Nicholson made a
booming 59-yarder before the first half expired then topped that with the game-winning 51-
yarder as time expired to get Alabama the 33-30 win.
WEEK 6 PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Georgian RB
Trevor Etienne. I’m sure the
Dawgs RB is sore from his performance against Auburn. The kid carried the ball 30 times for
146 yards and scored two rushing TD’s. It wasn’t a stat stuffer – the Dawgs needed the game
against an Auburn team hell-bent on an upset. The Dawgs “ran” away thanks to the ground
game 28-21.
PREDICTIONS
ARK – BYE
UF @ TENN – I’m expecting a lot of fireworks here. Turnovers will play a key factor in
the outcome here and I feel the Gators will force more and get some short fields for some easy
score. I got the Gators…UF 31-21
UGA @ MSU – Not sure you want to play an angry Georgia and that’s what the Bulldogs
will be getting this week. Dawg on dog attack…UGA 35-0
UK @ VANDY – The Wildcats love the underdog role but they’ll be the heavy favorite in
this one. Vandy is barely scoring 10 a game (11 ppg) and will struggle to score against the UK
D…UK 3110
LSU @ OLE MISS – The Rebels had some high hopes for the season and this game will
be another in the loss column on what’s suddenly becoming an unforgettable season in
Oxford…LSU 34-13
MIZZO @ VTECH – Great OOC game. The Hokies have played some tough opponents
and are about to get another. Mizzou has dropped one OOC this season and I don’t expect we’ll
see another. Tigers crank up the O and win going away…Mizz 45-31
OU @
TEXAS – RED RIVER! Usually a game of the week but the Sooners are
struggling. UT will shut down the ground game and get some picks and as the game goes one
leads to another to another and on and on…UT 38-13
TAMU @ UMASS – Welcome back to coach CNasty. You can see the progression the
more trigger time he gets but this won’t be the week the Minutemen pull a major upset. The
Aggies chug along with an easy out-of-conference win…A&M 31-20
UPSET OF THE WEEK & GAME OF THE WEEK:
BAMA @ SC – What would the SEC be without several games to view as GOTW. This one is
easy as upstart SC hosts the Crimson Tide. This is much bigger for SC as they are playing at
home, against the heavy favorite (Vegas had Bama -9.5), and the nation giving them no chance
for the upset. The Magic 8-ball says that’s a mistake to discount the Cocks.
SC comes in at 6-0 and has already laid waste to conference foes UK, LSU, and Ole Miss.
They sit atop the conference in total points, offense, rushing, first downs, and yards. The D is
1. Steady and sustained drives that result in TD’s.
2. Have to find a way to slow the Tide ground game.
3. Limit the big offensive plays by the Tide.
Bama rolls in with a 5-0 record and key wins over KSU, Miami, and UGA. The Tide
proved me wrong as I put them on the losing side against UGA so we’re getting them out another
upset bid. The D doesn’t give up many points and SC is about to find out if they is any truth to
that.
1. The impactful OL should do damage against the Cock front seven.
2. The #10 ranked conference passing O needs to step it up.
3. There’s just a little speed at the WR spot – use it.
