WEEK 5 SEC MEDIA PICKS & WEEKS 3/4 R

Article By: xLiQx

Hot dog! Another week of SEC football—what could be better?!!! We at the SEC Network
continue to provide the best coverage as our prediction record is 100% —that’s right, not one
loss. As Abe Lincoln said, “If you don’t like them – prove us wrong.”
NOTABLE NOTES:
-Ten teams ranked in top 25 (down one from pre-season vote).
-Did Ole Miss get ahead of themselves with the Michigan and being tabbed “Game of the
Week?” Duke came out and smacked them around 28-14.
-Bama had only 217 yards in the win versus UNC – are we back to” Defenses win
championships”.
-Auburn upends the Razorbacks Cinderella season 21-14 in week four.
SECMEDIA POWER 5:
1. Florida – huge win against TAMU (21-20)
2. Texas – SOS a little lacking so far
3. Bama – I’m just waiting for more on the offensive side.
4. UGA – Dawgs drop without really playing their games – say it isn’t so.
5. South Carolina – the new Cinderella in the conference (Buh bye Arkansas)
WEEK 3 PLAYER OF THE WEEK: South Carolina RB Raheim Sanders. Sanders
destroyed a very good LSU D in Baton Rouge to help propel the Cocks to a 36-23 win. Sanders
totted the rock 29 times for 221 yards (7.6 ypc) and two TD’s. The RB also caught four passes
for 21 yards (16 yac).
WEEK 4 PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Auburn WR Celeb Burton III. Auburn had a
total of 262 yard of offense and 209 passing yards (11 completions) in their 21-14 win at
Arkansas. Burton hauled in five passes for 186 yards and two TD’s. For the math nerds that’s
89% of the receiving yards and 71% of the offense (we round up).
WEEK 5 PREDICTIONS:
AUBURN @ OU – Oddly an early game for make or break for each team. Tigers 2-2 and
OU is 0-2 and giving up a whopping 48.5 ppg (don’t feel bad I gave up 63 in my last game).
When rubber meets the road here I feel the Tigers O won't be able to match the Sooners…OU
27-17
NIU @ UF – The Huskies are 3-0 but their competition level is about to go up 10-X.
Look for the Gators to be a bit better in all three phases and roll early and often…UF 42-10
OLE MISS @ UK – The good thing for the Rebels was their recent loss was out of
conference and all it will hurt is the rankings. It won’t be easy street against the Wildcats, but
their O will come through late…Miss 27-24

CMU @ LSU – The good (they beat Michigan State), the bad (they got smoked by SC),
and the ugly (the SC game was in conference). They beat a solid CMU coached squad on talent
alone…LSU 38-17
TEXAS @ MSU – The Bulldogs are going to have to do more than reach down and pull
up their bootstraps. Through four games they are averaging less than 7 ppg…UT 35-0
GTECH @ SC – The Cocks have officially whipped it out for the world to see and the
Yellowjackets are about to see stars…SC 31-14
BC @ TENN – The Vols are putting up points and I don’t believe BC will be able keep
pace. UT wears BC down in the second half…38-21
VANDY @ UTEP – The Commodores are struggling to find their footing and wins. I’ll
say it – this is a must-win for Vandy, and they’ll come through…23-17
UPSET OF THE WEEK:
BAMA @ UGA – Certainly game of the week material but we at the SEC Media opted to go for
more of a comeback tale this week (creative writing difference – I won’t even…). What we have
– two returning coaches who played in the CFP last season, two old head coaches with some
magi left in those stick skills, and two super teams. It would have been nice to be writing from a
different perspective but both coaches refused to return by DM’s about playing this season.
I love the Bama ground game and love the UGA front seven, I love the UGA speed at the
offensive skill position and love the Bama front seven for its speed and power – somewhere in
the middle the coaches will have to find answers to defeat each other. Overall, I like UGA better
here as I believe they can slow the ground game enough to make Bama have to pass with second
and third and longs. This plays into the UGA defensive scheme and gives them the edge.
However, if that Bama ground game can get cranking and make UGA run blitz they can be beat
by that Bama speed – can’t forget about that Williams kid at WR – oh yeah, then you have
Bernard, Prentice, Law, Hale, and Hamiton (anyway I can convince any to join the Trojans?).
Lots of guys and one ball and UGA is fast on D. This one I’ll take an hour of my day and tune
in.
PREDICTION:
UGA 38
BAMA 35
GAME OF THE WEEK:
TAMU @ ARK – Both teams are coming in off rough losses (TAMU 21-20 loss to UF; Ark 28-
14 loss to Auburn). TAMU was up there in the rankings and the Razorbacks were finally getting
noticed – maybe the spotlight shined a bit too bright in Fayetteville. With both teams looking to
regroup and find their fortunes - I like the better defense.
