Bama @ Miami – The Canes have given me some worry about their cup performances, so I
think the Tide roll – this is not a team you want to play while having struggles and while I’m
giving some credibility to coach Dealer he’s having issues with turnovers early during his cup
games…Bama 48-31
Arkansas @ WKU – Any day you can beat up the Big 12 Commish it’s considered a good day
(BYU RB 2 nd team all-conference – pfft!). While WKU has its returning coach the Razorbacks
are just the better team here. My magic eight ball says it will be closer than I expect (never
steers me wrong)…Ark 31-24
Auburn @ Rutgers – You can say this for the Tigers – they didn’t take an easy road in their out-
of-conference games. Rutgers was solid last season and has a fine team and coach. Where I
gave props to the Tigers last week in my upset of the week over the Irish I’m reversing and
sensing a letdown…Rut 31-24
Kennesaw State @ Florida – Smart move by the Gators – get the cupcake in before SEC play
kicks off…The Gators subs will play the second half…UF 35-0
USF @ MSU – I may “badger” MSU and Coach beercop throughout the season, but I really like
this game with the teams and coaches – beercop (72 NDL wins) versus MARINE (Semper Fi! –
111 NDL wins) – gives me the old NDL vibe. As a fellow Devil Dog by rule, I have to take USF
and you can’t argue with unwritten rules…USF24-21
OU @ Duke – I just feel the Sooners are a great fit for Coach ShadyNasty. He’s got a great
back and he rushed the ball well last season. With a better back and team he’s going to cause
problems for opposing teams. I got OU running all over the Blue Devils here…OU 35-13
Texas @ BYU— As my former team, I have a love for the Stormin' Mormons, but they’ll need a
lot more than love in this one. Texas gets a tune-up to flesh things out before the SEC
slate…UT 42-7
TAMU @ James Madison – The Aggies have had some tight cup games so far and while JMU
has a few solid players they’re about to run into a freight train head-on…A&M 34-13
Miami, OH @ Vandy – There won’t be many times we say Vandy is the more talented team in
the matchup, but this is one of those weeks. Vandy isn’t going to be able to flex on many SEC
opponents but they get to go sleeveless here…Vandy 27-6
UPSET OF THE WEEK:
Kentucky @ South Carolina – Hey, it’s the first conference game of the season so that’s an auto
GOTW or UOTW play. I’ve felt the UK D is overrated and the SC D is underrated. I like the
Cocks to be able to run the ball here while limiting the amount of UK big plays through the air. I
fully expect a war throughout with the Cocks making UK play from behind the 2 nd half – one of
those climb the mountain but not being able to peak over the top…SC 34-31
GAME OF THE WEEK:
PSU @ MIZZOU – PSU has a very nice roster in place, and they’ve looked the part in cup
action putting up 42 ppg in their two wins. Now, I don’t want to put the cart before the horse
here as those opponents were not P5 schools (Western Kentucky and Tulsa). In defense of
those teams, they did score a combined 46 on the vaunted Nittany Lion D (25 and 21). The
Tigers are not some pushover team as they have a talented roster in their own right and are
coming off a CFP appearance (yes, I realize with a different coaching staff). I went against
Mizzou last week and can’t justify it two weeks in a row. I have the Tigers storming back in the
second half and a late TD seals the win…Mizz 41-38
