Buffalo New DailyThe Bulls Hit a Wall in Beef Cup Opener
Article By: In what can only be described as a "learning experience," the Buffalo Bulls were shut out in their NDL Beefy Cup opener against the Kentucky Wildcats, falling 35-0. Coach OldManWobbles, making his highly anticipated debut after a 14-year hiatus from the game, quickly discovered that his old-school offensive philosophy might need a modern makeover.
The Buffalo offense, led by quarterback CJ Ogbonna, struggled to gain traction, posting just 111 yards of total offense and six first downs in a game dominated by Kentucky from start to finish.
"I've got to admit, the game’s changed a bit since 2010," Coach OldManWobbles said with a chuckle in the postgame press conference. "I thought we could lean on the option and grind it out, but it turns out defenses in 2024 are a little quicker than I remember!"
The Kentucky Wildcats, who racked up 401 total yards, scored early and often, leaving the Bulls to reassess their strategy moving forward. Coach OldManWobbles, ever the optimist, vowed to take the loss in stride.
“We’ll be fine,” he said. “We’re going back to the drawing board. Maybe it’s time to sprinkle in some new wrinkles, spread things out a bit, and, who knows, maybe I’ll even learn how to use this ‘RPO’ thing everyone’s talking about.”
Despite the tough start, Buffalo fans remain hopeful, knowing their new coach brings a wealth of experience, even if it’s a little dusty. With a clear-eyed look at the future, OldManWobbles and his Bulls are focused on the next challenge.
“We’ll bounce back,” the coach promised. “We’ve got the pieces, we just need to put them together... without the cobwebs.”
With upcoming matchups looming, the Bulls faithful will be watching closely, eager to see just what kind of magic Coach OldManWobbles can pull out of his playbook.
Stay tuned, Bulls fans—this season's just getting started.
