Miss State traveled to Kansas St in round one of Pool 5 in the Beefy Cup. Coach Beecop had his Bulldogs ready to play even though he was battling one of the better NDL veteran coaches in Coach Bearass.
The game started out with a couple of punts and on Miss State’s second drive Kevin Coleman took a jet pass from Blake Sharpen 72 years to go up 7-0. Miss State would add two more field goals to take a 13-0 lead in the 4th quarter.
Coach Bearass would not be kept down all game as he marched his Wildcats down the field to make the game 13-7. After a punt by Miss State, Coach Bearass would take the lead on another spectacular drive and miraculous running by his talented qb Avery Johnson. Down 14-13, Miss State qb Shapen would throw a pick six to Marques Sigle to take a comfortable lead with on 32 seconds left in the game.
Miss St QB Shapen hit burner Jordan Mosley down the seam for a 66 yard catch and run to get the Bulldogs within striking distance. After an incomplete pass the improbable would happen. Shapen threw a bullet to the wideout over the middle. K State would tip the ball in the air where their defender tried to catch the tipped ball. The ball is mishandled and TE Cameron Ball would catch the tipped ball in the end zone for the touchdown. At 21-19 the Bulldog’s had to go for two. Miss St attempted another jet pass that was thwarted by the K state defense.
