A sit down with Coach Steam
Article By: After a 10 year hiatus the NDL will be crowning a Champion as the SMU Mustangs face off against the Kansas Jayhawks.
Early this week I had a chance to catch up with Coach Steam and get his thoughts about the matchup
MGR- So, first of all congratulations ! The last time we talked you were preparing for the ACC title game , now its for the National Championship. How are you preparing knowing this will be the biggest game of your career ?
Steam-" I would be lying if I said this wasn't the biggest game I've played in but the approach is still the same, scout a little ,develop a game plan and work on implementing that during practices and scrimmages, perhaps find a new wrinkle two and give it hell when the time comes."
MGR-You mentioned Championship or bust for SMU, is this still the case ? Boosters and fans from Austin would like to know!
Steam-"I consider myself a man of my word. At the time I said that the Championship game was a lot further our than it is now. Right now my thoughts remain the same . I don't want to bite the hand that fed me all season.. I would say I will stay for the fan base for that doesn't mean that i wont "test the waters"
MGR-You are known for a being a defensive wizard and methodical offensively, how do you plan on slowing down the potent Kansas offense?
Steam-"Actually I'm still working on that, I will say that its nice to face a team that is close to ratings as my team. This may allow a few new ways to attack . Kansas has talent all on both sides of the ball, we need to find a way to slow them down.
Thank You Coach Steam and best of luck in the Championship game !
