NDL HQ - The latest Top 25 poll saw several shifts in the rankings following a thrilling Week 12 slate, with some major movement at both the top and the bottom of the standings.

At the top, Notre Dame held onto the #1 spot with a slight dip in total points (2099) but still commanded an overwhelming 68 first-place votes. The Fighting Irish secured another win against Florida State, defeating the Seminoles 42-25. Despite their continued dominance, their total points reflect a tightening race at the top.

The #2 Missouri Tigers (2052 points, 10 first-place votes) stayed firm in their ranking after a hard-fought 38-28 victory over Oklahoma. Missouri continues to build a case as a national contender, slowly narrowing the gap with Notre Dame.

The biggest shake-up in the top five came with SMU (1960 points), which maintained its #3 spot despite a relatively uneventful week. In contrast, Kansas (1912 points) leapfrogged Ohio State, now at #4 after a massive 55-21 victory over BYU, accompanied by seven first-place votes.

Georgia (1787 points, 1 first-place vote) also benefited from a strong win, edging out Tennessee 42-39 in a nail-biter, allowing them to climb one spot to #5, while Ohio State slipped to #6 after a wild 41-37 victory over Northwestern, in a game that nearly cost the Buckeyes their Top 10 spot.

Further down the rankings, Oregon State continues its climb, rising to #7 after a dominant 34-0 shutout against San Jose State. Meanwhile, Baylor dropped two spots to #8, showing some vulnerabilities in their most recent contests. The Nebraska Cornhuskers solidified their #9 position after dismantling USC 52-21, reminding everyone of their explosive potential.

The biggest riser was Iowa, jumping from #16 to a tie for #10, thanks to a statement win over UCLA, 35-28. South Carolina also moved up to #11 after a shootout victory against Vanderbilt, 52-42.

Further down, West Virginia (#15) moved up three spots after surviving a 48-38 thriller against Cincinnati. Similarly, Liberty (#23) saw a small rise after a tight 26-21 win against Middle Tennessee, while Tennessee fell significantly to #21 after their loss to Georgia. The most significant drop came from Clemson (#20), falling from #7 to #20 after an upset loss to Virginia Tech, 42-28.

Newcomers to the poll include Southern Mississippi at #22, after a thrilling 42-36 win over Texas State, while Florida plummeted to #24 after a disappointing 38-10 loss to LSU.

As the season heads into its final weeks, the Top 25 continues to be a battleground, with contenders battling not only for wins but for coveted rankings in the race to the playoffs. Week 12 showed us that no lead is safe, and every game matters as we approach the season’s end.
