Article By: uf83198

Illinois used a big play offense and a goal line stand in the final seconds to overcome four turnovers and beat 19th ranked Michigan 28-24 in Champaign.

After an early defensive stop, Illinois was starting to drive the ball when a Cole Rusk Fumble was returned by Michigan 57 yards and the games first TD. Illinois struck next with a 86 yard TD pass from Luke Altmeyer to Ashton Hollins to tie the game. Michigan added a FG and a 61 yard TD pass of their own to take a 17-7 halftime lead.

Illinois scored a TD in the 3rd and the Wolverines answered with their own TD in the 4th quarter, Michigan had a 24-14 lead with 4 minutes to go in the game. Illinois came to life with a three play scoring drive in 15 seconds as Altmeyer found Malik Elzy for a 51 yard TD pass.

On the next possession, Dylan Rosiek intercepted a floater from Michigan QB Alex Orji to set up the Illini offense. Illinois drove down to the 1 yard line where Altmeyer found Pat Bryant for a 1 yard TD pass to take the lead.

Michigan would not give up, driving the ball inside the Illini 5 yard line as time ticked away. Three times the Illini defense turned the Michigan offense away from the 3 yard line and was able to seal the victory.
