The Monarchs of Old Dominion marched into East Lansing and leave with a victory!

Down Goes Sparty! ODU Stuns MSU!

Article By: Zondoe

EAST LANSING, MI - College football is back! Old Dominion's Coach Zondoe has started off his tenure in fantastic fashion by beating a Power 5 school in their own stadium as Old Dominion beats Michigan State 23-14.

The Monarch marched down the field on the opening drive off of the work horse efforts of senior running back, Aaron Young. In the redzone, Young would haul in the first touchdown of the Monarch's season on an 18 yard reception. Ethan Sanchez would miss the PAT.

After a Spartan 3 and out, the Monarchs would march down to red zone again but come away empty as Sanchez missed a 29 yard field goal. The Spartans would respond with a promising drive that fizzled out near midfield.

After overcoming a fumble scare by running back Aaron Young, Old Dominion would continue to ride the work horse Young down the field and would cap off the drive with a touchdown on a 3 yard rush. Sanchez would convert the PAT this time.

With a little more than minute left in the half, an interception by Old Dominion senior corner Rasheed Reason turned into a short punch in drive for the Monarch offense, this time a 5 yard pass from junior QB Grant Wilson to junior tight end Jalen Butler. Sanchez would make the PAT again.

The Spartans weren't without fight, however, as they would take the ensuing kickoff all the way back for a 99 yard touchdown by Alante Brown with a successful PAT attempt. At the half, Monarchs were up 20-7.

The Spartans came out in the second half with a fire. They score on a 38 yard bomb and mean grab from sophomore QB Aiden Chiles to senior Montorie Foster, Jr. PAT was successful.

The Monarchs responded by chewing up some clock to bring the game into the 4th quarter and coming away with a 37 yard field goal by Ethan Sanchez.

The Spartans would march down the field but miss a field goal with 4 minutes left in the game. The Monarchs would pick up just enough first downs to force Michigan State to use all of their timeouts and bleed the game clock to zero.

The Monarchs dominated time of possession, 20:08 to Michigan State's 7:52.

Senior running back Aaron Young was the player of the game as he lead the offense with 204 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns on 26 carries. He also racked up 117 receiving yards and scored the game's first touchdown on a reception.

"Shoutout to the big boys upfront," Young said, referring to his offensive linemen. "They came in as the little brother and dominated big bro at the line of scrimmage."

Coach Zondoe shared similar sentiments. "Our offensive linemen played great today. I'm proud of Aaron for seizing his moment. I'm proud of Grant for being a leader on this team. I'm proud of our defense for answering the call and standing strong. Overall, I am just so proud of this team, proud of my guys! Winning on the road is tough, especially in a stadium like this!"

The Monarchs will enjoy this victory and head to Hawai'i to play their Beefy Cup game for this week. Time TBA. The next scheduled regular season game will be at Kent State.
