Week 1 UTEP Miner @ Nebraska Cornhuskers
Article By: The new season brought a whirlwind of emotions as a true freshman quarterback started for the unranked Nebraska Cornhuskers. The Blackshirt defense rose to the occasion in the first half, preventing the game from slipping away while Raiola battled first-game nerves. Tommi Hill intercepted a quick curl route for a pick-six. On the next drive, UTEP's star quarterback fumbled, leading to another Nebraska interception. Nebraska then forced UTEP to punt, and sophomore wide receiver Lloyd returned it for a 67-yard touchdown.
The tide seemed to turn in Nebraska's favor, but Raiola's subsequent pick-six allowed UTEP to tie the game at 14-14. However, Nebraska managed to score a late touchdown, bringing the halftime score to 21-14.
2nd Half Nebraska coach must of gave a massive pep talk to his players they came out firing. Rahmir Johnson ran for 181yards 2tds and WR Lloyd got his 2nd td of the game on a busted coverage for 70yards. Nebraska just grinded UTEP wearing them down.
