[u]BIG XII GAME OF THE WEEK

RIVALRY GAME

Being as this is the Big Texas conference it is only fitting, I guess, that the Longhorns make it into a 3rd straight Game Of The Week. Unfortunately for them, lose this game and not only will they most likely not be in another Game Of The Week but they can no longer refer to this as the Big Texas conference for the rest of the season either. Texas, the preseason pick to win the conference, faltered to everyone's 2nd place pick in the last block. They were able to come back and beat a ranked West Virginia team to even out their conference record at 1-1 but now must face the Sooners 3-1 (1-1) in the Red River Shootout. Oklahoma is coming off of a disappointing loss to Texas Tech and finds themselves in the same hole as the Longhorns. Another L in the conference column could push them out of contention in a stacked Big XII Conference, especially when a date with the in-state rival Cowboys is still looming. Both the Sooners and Longhorns will need their offenses to show up this game. To date, both teams have been relying on their defenses to win the games for them and who can blame them when they're both racking up the sacks, interceptions, and defensive touchdowns; but when both teams are doing this it will fall to the offenses to win. For this game we'll get to use the mantra "Offense Wins Championships".

BIG XII NOTABLE

buckeye76: 0-1 (0-0) @ uf83198 : 4-0 (1-0)

The Baylor Bears have only played one game this season but showed a lot of promise in it. However, you have to wonder now if they will be able to play that well again as rust and complacency has to be settling in. In the meantime, TCU is off to a red hot start. They are the only undefeated team left in the Big XII and currently stand tied for 1st in the conference standings with two other teams. Can Baylor be the team that knocks them from the ranks of the undefeated? You know Coach uf has to be loving his decision to leave Nebraska.

sirloin: 1-3 (0-2) @ SuperJakeB: 3-1 (1-0)

Kansas has been playing pretty decent football especially from their QB. While the play so far has only netted them one win, it's all that was needed to meet their contract goals. Beefy now gets to sit back in cruise control and try to wreck havoc on the Big XII standings. Okie State is one of the other three teams tied for 1st in the Big XII. SuperJake can take a breath now and should be able to relax a little facing the Jayhawks. While it's obvious that he can't just blow them off totally (Week 4 vs Nevada), he should be able to rely more on his RB's than his QB to get him this win. Of note, Oklahoma State is currently on a 10 game winning streak in conference play dating back to an undefeated run through the Big XII last season. Look for it to be 11.

Tjw489: 2-2 (1-0) @ Talented3: 1-1 (0-1)

The Red Raiders, a team I told you to watch out for preseason, are the 3rd team sitting there tied for 1st in the conference standings. With the upset victory over OU last block Coach Tjw can really put everyone on notice this week with another W. The Mountaineers lost a key game last week against Texas. Just like every other team in this conference, they don't want to be starring down an 0-2 conference record if they have hopes of winning the Big XII.

taruncheel: 0-1 (0-0) @ ChampDizzle: 3-2 (1-1)

Iowa State is another team that has been unable to get their games in to date. This will most likely cost them when they face Coach Champ and his K State Wildcats. KSU has quietly picked up back to back wins, one being their rivalry game against Kansas. Can these wins help improve their confidence as they start getting into the meat of conference play. They still have a shot with a 1-1 record but can ill afford another set back.
