The UnTouchable Report

A rundown of the week's hottest games.

....................WEEK 5....................

#7 Missouri Tigers 1-1 (0-0 Big 12) Black Crowes #6 Oklahoma Sooners 3-0 (0-0 Big 12) bearass

Just one season after being outed as Oklahoma head coach after an intolerable 7-6 season, Bearass managed to recapture his team and is off to a hot 3-0 start. That same season was also the last time these two coaches squared off, with the Sooners getting the best of Black Crowes' Tigers during a 5-8 season. Missouri turned it around last season, cruising past OU (albeit without Bearass) en route to the national championship game. With a loss to now #1 Alabama already behind them, this game will be a pivotal one for the Tigers.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

Missouri's rushing woes continued against the Tide and although it's still early in the season, averaging under 10 yards per game won't win you many games. The Tigers' defense and special teams still kept it close against Alabama though; WR T.J. Moe has returned a kickoff for touchdown in each of the two games so far this season. On the flip side, expect RB Roy Finch to get about 10-12 touches in the game. Finch has shown some flashes of brilliance but will tire easily if in on long drives. Look for backup RB Brandon Williams and FB Trey Millard to make some appearances as well.

THE UNTOUCHABLE PREDICTION

It'll be hard to keep pace if the Tigers still can't run the ball. And even though QB Landry Jones has more interceptions (5) than touchdowns (4), I think he'll lead his team to victory and improve the Sooners' record to 4-0.

#5 Virginia Tech Hokies 3-0 (0-0 ACC) VTrunNgun West Virginia Mountaineers 1-0 (0-0 Big East) Talented3

Both of these coaches are in their 6th season of their respective dynasties. They've played each other 4 of the past 5 seasons with VTrunNgun holding a 3-1 advantage over Talented3, including a 10-0 shutout last season. Neither coach has lost more than 5 games in each of the past 5 seasons and both of them have at least 3 ten-win seasons. And both are still seeking their first national title. Needless to say, this non-conference rivalry between two premier coaches is always one to look forward to.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

It's hard to gauge the offense of West Virginia through just one game but history tells us Talented will utilize a ground and pound attack. RB Shawne Alston rushed for 122 yards and 2 TDs against Maryland and the Mountaineers will continue to feature him often in their offense. QB Geno Smith has the legs and the arm to get his offense out of sticky situations as the Mountaineers love to put up points on the scoreboard. The Hokies will mount a similar offense as RB David Wilson has rushed the ball a league-high 24 times per game. QB Logan Thomas is one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the league, completing 65% of his passes and only throwing one interception in over 40 pass attempts. The Virginia Tech defense is giving up a fourth-best 7 points per game and averaging over 3 picks per game so look for them to play lights out in this one.

THE UNTOUCHABLE PREDICTION

We've got a high-powered offense playing a lights-out defense. Generally I would favor the defense in these situations but the game is in Morgantown and Talented is due a win in the rivalry.

Others to watch for:

Arkansas Razorbacks 1-0 (0-0 SEC) steelcitychaos @ #1 Alabama Crimson Tide 4-0 (0-0 SEC) BFiVL

---Arkansas handed Alabama their first loss last season. Can they do it again this season?

#25 USC Trojans 2-1 (1-0 PAC-12) sammy33 @ #21 Arizona State Sun Devils 2-1 (0-0 PAC-12) RB4SC22

---The Sun Devils can prove they deserve to be ranked higher than the Trojans with a win here.

#4 Florida State Seminoles 3-0 (0-0 ACC) JustGiver31 @ #19 Clemson Tigers 2-1 (0-0 ACC) LytezOut

---The winner of this game will win the Atlantic division. Book it.

....................WEEK 6....................

#1 Alabama Crimson Tide 4-0 (0-0 SEC) BFiVL #2 Florida Gators 4-0 (1-0 SEC) Daw1git

I cannot remember the last time we had a #1 vs #2 matchup during the regular season. If it has happened before, I don't think any of them could be bigger than this one. Two of the most prestigious coaches to ever hold a PS3 controller in the NDL will square off in what could very likely be an early preview of this season's SEC Championship. To preface this even more, this game serves as the rubber match between these two coaches with these two teams. Daw1git and the Gators just barely slipped by Biffy and the Tide in Tuscaloosa 24-21 last season. But Alabama narrowly beat Florida 12-10 in Season 19 (also in Tuscaloosa) in Daw1git's first stint as Florida coach. This time, the showdown will come to us from Gainesville.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

When you look at the Florida offense you only need to look for one name: Jeff Driskel. Driskel by far leads the league in pass completions (103), pass attempts (159), pass yards (1669), and touchdowns (20) and is on pace to throw for over 5000 yards this season. The Gators have the league's most prolific offense and they gain nearly 90% of it through the air. The Tide give up only 116 yards per game through the air and pick off their opponents 3 times per game so it'll be interesting to see how Driskel adjusts to the toughest defense he's seen all season. Alabama takes a different approach to their offense with RBs Trent Richardson and Eddie Lacey accounting for over 150 rush yards per game. Biffy picks has pass plays well and QB Philip Sims is excellent in completing those plays picked out for him (he's completing over 70% of his passes).

THE UNTOUCHABLE PREDICTION

This one's tough to call. It'll be another low-scoring defensive struggle like their last two meetings but I think Driskel will lead his team on a last-minute drive to give his team the win (and I aim to be 3-for-3 in predicting Biffy's first loss of the season).

#13 Nebraska Cornhuskers 2-0 (0-0 Big Ten) uf83198 #3 Wisconsin Badgers 4-0 (0-0 Big Ten) dcane7

We've got another potential conference championship preview here as the newcomer Uf83198 takes on the veteran Dcane7. Uf's got some big shoes to fill in Lincoln after 6ftdeep (and Sammy before that) but has got his Huskers off to a 2-0 start, albeit against Northern Illinois and Ole Miss. The Badgers also beat Ole Miss, but laid waste to Vandy (get it?) before knocking of #14 Miami and South Carolina.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

RB James White gets the majority of the handoffs for the Badgers with Montee Ball still getting about 10 touches a game, but not nearly as productive. Wisconsin is going to stick to a run first, pass second gameplan but if QB Jon Budmayr has to throw, look for him to find TE Jake Byrne as he is Budmayr's favorite target. The Cornhuskers aren't managing a lot of offense themselves, ranking 75th in points for (17) and 74th in total offense (241). Nebraska will need to find a way to keep up with Wisconsin should they fall behind early. QB Taylor Martinez has seen just one snap this season but getting him involved more may give the Huskers the spark they need to put some points on the scoreboard.

THE UNTOUCHABLE PREDICTION

From what we've seen so far, the Huskers have yet to prove they can put points on the board, especially against a team as good as Wisconsin. This one won't even be close.

Others to watch for:

#20 UCLA Bruins 2-0 (0-0 PAC-12) UclaMac @ #15 Stanford Cardinal 1-0 (0-0 PAC-12) Steamrollr22

---Can UclaMac and the Bruins find lightning in a bottle again and make it two in a row against the Cardinal?

#19 Clemson Tigers 2-1 (0-0 ACC) LytezOut @ #5 Virginia Tech Hokies 3-0 (0-0 ACC) VTrunNgun

---The ACC is loaded this season and this game is just one of the big time matchups the conference will see this season.

Connecticut Huskies 3-1 (0-0 Big East) DRiccio21 @ West Virginia Mountaineers 1-0 (0-0 Big East) Talented3

---UConn dropped out of the rankings after a narrow loss to #5 Virginia Tech. They can prove they still belong there with a big win here.
