Article By: After a monumental season for UConn football, which saw them capture their first big east crown under coach Riccio, the Huskies look to defend their title in season 23.
The task will not be easy for UConn as the Big East is loaded with familiar faces and a couple good new owners.
UConn's magic season was possible thanks to a great defense and an offense that was effective moving the ball on 3rd down. A similar effort will be needed with the schedule the athletic department has put in front of Coach Riccio this season.
Week 1 will be the long lasting season opening rivalry game vs what should be a very highly ranked NC St team. Coming off a BCS birth and a loss vs the Huskies last season, NC St will be looking for a win in this one.
Week 2 takes the Huskies on the road to face off with Virginia Tech and coach Pimpin. The Hokies were the #1 team in the country for most of last season before a heartbreaking loss to NC St in the ACC title game. The Huskies will have their work cut out for them in this one.
Week 3 slates the Huskies in home contest vs Miami (Ohio). Miami is a favorite to win their conference and a talented roster on paper. While the Huskies will be expected to win this game, it won't be easy.
Week 4 is a bye.
Week 5 is a cupcake at home vs Tulane. Tulane is coming to collect a paycheck in this one and UConn will be looking to 35 point the Green Wave in this one. With the Big East opener ahead of them, this could be a potential trap game.
Week 6 is the Big East opener vs West Virginia. One of the powers in the conference, this game has alot of meaning. With UConn having beaten the Mountaineers for the first time in ages the previous season, Coach Talented will have the boys ready.
Week 7 is the first opportunity for coach Hugme to face the Huskies as head coach of USF. Hugme comes off a season of success with a lower ranked team and already has high expectations as many are predicting him to win the Big East.
Week 8 is a bye week
Week 9 is yet another tough Big East game vs Pittsburgh. Coach Doc was probably Coach Riccio's biggest challenge in season 22 outside of the loss vs BC. This game will be one that the Huskies will have marked on their calendar.
Week 10 is a rivalry game at Syracuse vs newcomer Bearass. Having not had much experience vs Bearass, i'm not sure what to expect, but being a rivalry game i'm assuming he'll be ready.
Week 11 is our annual fan appreciation day where we win by 50+ points.
Week 12 is a road contest at Louisville. Coach Krgkmg is a Connecticut native so he should be fairly familiar with the Huskies. Coach Riccio hopes to bring them the pain since he's not a UConn fan.
Week 13 is a road trip to rival Rutgers. Coach dak was a surprisingly difficult game in season 22 despite his record. The Scarlet Knights are looking to incorporate a no-huddle offense this season which could cause some headaches for opponents.
Week 14 is the season finale vs Cincy. UConn knocked off Cincy last season in the defacto big east title game. The Bearcats will certainly be looking for revenge.
While UConn has the ability to have a great season, the schedule and all their luck being used last season will likely prevent them from having another return to a BCS bowl game. The Huskies are hoping to be in the hunt for another Big East Title and not be this seasons disappointing team.
