This Week in the NDL...By the Numbers

Vol. 4

302...Number of kick return yards Maryland CB Cameron Chism racked up in a 44-24 Week 10 loss against Boston College. That mark is nearly 100 yards better than any other returner in any single week. Chism also returned one kick 96 yards to paydirt.

149...Number of yards Maryland WR Kevin Dorsey averages per game through 5 games this season, by far the best in the league. Dorsey accounts for nearly 40% of his team's receptions. Boise State WR Tyler Shoemaker leads the league in yards per catch (min 15 receptions) with 34. Yet ECU WR Lance Lewis still leads in overall yards and touchdowns with 795 and 11, respectively.

132...Number of rush yards #3 South Carolina averaged per game in their 8 wins this season, on the heels of RB Marcus Lattimore. How many rush yards did the Gamecocks garner in their loss to Mississippi State? Just 40.

57...Number of teams that have played at least 5 games that are at or above a .500 winning record. 17 teams have yet to play at least 5 games and the rest (46) have losing records. The SEC has the most with 9. The WAC has the least with 1, Hawaii (5-3).

11:23...Average time of possession #7 Oregon State holds on to the ball per game, making them the highest ranked team with the lowest time of possession. At 5-1, the Beavers are still outscoring their opponents in their wins by an average of 13 points per game, despite being on offense nearly half the time of their opponents.

7...Number of interceptions Arkansas QB Tyler Wilson threw in a 49-31 Week 9 loss at Ole Miss. Incidentally, Wilson also led the league that week in completions (25), attempts (44), yards (466), and tied for the most touchdowns (4), along with Texas A&M QB Ryan Tannehill and Lousiville QB Will Stein.

7...Number of players that have recorded 10 or more sacks so far this season. Two of those seven players are on the defensive line of Virginia Tech who, not surprisingly, are only allowing 44 yards per game on the ground.

3...Number of teams on the most recent Coach's and Media Poll that have at 3 losses. Nebraska and Arkansas are both 4-3 while Oklahoma is just 3-3. There are 6 teams that are 5-2 or better that are not ranked, including a 6-1 Central Florida and a 6-2 Texas A&M.
