The new game jitters are gone. The anticipation has come and went. Now that we are all settled into the game, we can focus on one of the biggest reasons we all play this game: friendly competition. Oh, and let's have fun while we're at it too. :D
WEEK 3
#12 TCU Horned Frogs 2-0 (0-0 MWC)LytezOut @ Air Force Falcons 2-0 (0-0 MWC)john24
The Mountain West gets conference play started early with a battle of two 2-0 teams. Air Force cruised by sub-par mid-majors Louisiana-Lafayette and Central Michigan while TCU squeaked by tough Big East opponents in Rutgers and Pittsburgh. It's tough to predict this one statistically, but TCU under Coach LytezOut bowled through the Mountain West last season on its way to a conference title, including a 35-3 drubbing of Air Force (albeit with another coach). Keys to the Game: Air Force will need to keep scoring in high amounts if they want win. TCU will need to find a way to stop the relentless rushing attack of Air Force, who is averaging a league-leading 321 rushing yards per game. The UnTouchable Prediction: It was no fluke Coach John24 took Rice to a 12-2 season and conference title in his first season in the NDL. Air Force gets the upset 31-21.
With two of NDL's elite, this game could have very well been for the national title (and might very well still be). Shel has set up one of the greatest dynasties in this league's history, winning the Big Game three of the last four years. Cnasty has been there before as well, winning once. And now helming a team that has reached the title game the last two seasons (although in losing efforts), Cnasty may be back to his glory days at the top of his game. Keys to the Game: LSU gave up 342 yards of total offense against a far inferior San Diego State team. They may have been cruising along after obtaining a 27-3 halftime lead, but they'll have to tighten up that defense against a Miami team prone to lighting up the scoreboard. The UnTouchable Predidiction: LSU is on a roll that doesn't seem to be stopping any time soon. Tigers win, but just barely, 28-24.
With South Carolina favored to win the SEC East, every other team in the division will have to make each conference game count. Coach Cdub21 has landed his best team in his 18 seasons in the NDL, but barely got past Iowa in Week 1. Tennessee lost to #19 Texas A&M in a hard-fought game that quite possibly could have gone either way. Keys to the Game: Despite its loss, Tennessee is averaging nearly twice as much total offense than their Gator counterparts. Florida will have to find ways to put more points on the board if they want to hang in this game. The UnTouchable Prediction:Kdog and the Volunteers bounce back from their loss and cruise by the Gators, 27-10.
Lots of drama surrounds both these coaches. Coach 6ftdeep pulled a Brett Favre and returns to Lincoln for a third season after amassing a 25-3 record in the previous two (including a flawless 14-0 in Season 20 that didn't garner him a national title). Coach Huskerskev plays his alma mater with a new team exactly one season after a near-perfect year with Southern Miss was spoiled by another guy on this week's UnTouchable Report. Neither team has played a game yet this season, but expect a close hard-fought game between these two NDL veterans. Keys to the Game: If Coach 6ftdeep came back to try to reclaim a title spot he thought he deserved at one point, he'll have to go through a gauntlet of games that also includes #2 Wisconsin, #9 Ohio State, #22 Penn State, and #23 Michigan. It'll be important to take each game one at a time, starting with this one. The UnTouchable Prediction: Huskerskev continues reeling from last season while 6ftdeep struggles second guessing his retirement. Ducks 35-34.
