Article Data Imported from Previous NDL SiteHigh Expectations: Huskies w/8 Win Goal
Article By: UConn will enter season 22 with Coach Driccio21 at the helm for his 16th season (13th consecutive). The past 16 seasons have been filled with mediocrity and the fans in Storrs are expecting more in this campaign.
This Huskies squad has easily the most talent of any Husky team Coach Riccio has coached, but some preseason news has put a damper on expectations. Impact player and potential breakout star running back Robbie Frey has been excused from the program as he looks to finish his graduate studies at a different school after not being accepted into the UConn masters teaching program. His loss means the Huskies, known as a power running team, will be forced to use backup DJ Shoemate and 3rd string scat back Lyle McCombs. Both have performed well in preseason but Frey had potential star written all over him.
The QB position is also up in the air as a battle between mobile qb Michael Box and the accurate Johnny McEntee (of youtube trickshot fame). Neither has much experience so it's likely both will get an opportunity throughout the year.
The defense is the strong suit for the Huskies led by a deep defensive line and a solid secondary. The linebacking corps lost some of its star power but is still serviceable.
The schedule has been announced as follows:
Week 1: at NC State Wolfpack
Week 2: vs. Baylor Bears
Week 3: at Illinois Fighting Illini
Week 4: Bye Week
Week 5: vs. Boston College Eagles
Week 6: at West Virginia Mountaineers
Week 7: vs. South Florida Bulls
Week 8: Bye Week
Week 9: at Pittsburgh Panthers
Week 10: vs. Syracuse Orangemen
Week 11: at Buffalo Bulls
Week 12: vs. Louisville Cardinals
Week 13: vs. Rutgers Scarlet Knights
Week 14: at Cincinnati Bearcats
With an 8 win goal, UConn has its work cut out for them, considering Coach Riccio's last 8 win season with UConn came all the way back in season 7.
