After 14 Seasons Coach Gonzales will call it a Wrap
It has be a special.
In Breaking News Coach Gonzales has annouced his decision to step down after the season as coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Nebraska is currently 9--1 on the year and very much in the running for the conference title. Coach Gonzales is probably most known for the only Coach to take a BCS team to 14-0 but not play for a title.
Coach Gonzales has Coached a numerous schools but has had his most success at Nebraska or any school not named Cal. He has been fortunate enough to win 3 conference titles and has a current record of 104 -64.
" It has been a great 13 and 3/4 qtrs seasons coaching, and a very special 2 year run here at Nebraska. I feel it is just time to hang up the whistle and call it a career. My heart is just not in it anymore. Just too much outside of the x and o's that is just not appealing to me. I would like to think the NCAA (aka NDL) for allowing me to be part of something special here for so long. I have had a full filling career over the 14 seasons, and throughout my career have met a lot of great coaches that I enjoy talking about the family and other stuff besides the x 's and o's . And I hope to keep that bond even after my retirement as I also hope to be allowed to keep my membership within the community as well. While I will miss that coveted National Championship, I gave it my best shot but I guess it just wasn't in the cards, but I did my part. Maybe I should of gave up that pipe dream of me winning with Cal sooner.. lol .
What I will do for here on, I don't know, maybe I hold some clinics or something .. lol . I really haven't thought about it .. But I do know that it is time after Season 21 to call it a wrap. It has been special and fun, and I enjoyed the ride. I plan to finish out the season strong and add a 4th conference championship on the way out . Again I thank you for the opportunity to be apart of something special . "
Coach Gonzales stated to the Nebraska media and fans late tonight in his press conference.
