This is why they are number 1 and will be number 1 at the end if they get through this week with no scratches. The spotlight will shine the brightest down on the Bayou but there are some other spotlights throughout the nation. As we pass the midway point in NDL 21, it will only get more crazier down the stretch.
First Stop: Ames, Iowa
Coach ICE has the Cyclones playing like contenders in the Big 12 North. To date, they still have to travel to Austin to face the Longhorns in week 8. Texas is coming off a huge upset against #3 Nebraska. Iowa St sits at 3-2 overall and 2-1 in conference with wins against Kansas St and Oklahoma. In this upcoming block they face two ranked teams from the Big 12 North. They will host #21 Kansas(3-0) and #3 Nebraska(5-1). The Cyclones are led by QB Austen Arnaud who has thrown for 1421 yards 11 TD's and only 4 interceptions. They key is that he throws to everybody as 5 receivers have 10 catches or more. If they can pull two more upsets, they will sit on top of the Big 12 North.
I see the Cyclones pulling off two more upsets before losing to Nebraska. No matter what happens, the Cyclones will go bowling. A great turnaround for Coach ICE who really stunk it up last season.
Second Stop: Nashville, Tennessee
The Vanderbilt Commodores come in at 3-2, 1-1 in conference after an upset of #15 South Carolina. They will have a tough block as they travel to Fayetteville to battle the Hogs and host #11 Florida. They still have a trip to Athens in Week 7. Their only two losses thus far are against ranked opponents in LSU and Kansas. The team is led by Warren Norman who leads in rushing and receiving for the Dores. This will be a crucial step to see if Vanderbilt are pretenders or contenders.
