B1G - Quest for the Cup

Here's a look at the 1st Round NDL Cup matchups for the B1G and how I see them going down. (in all fairness, 2 games are in and I would have been right anyway!)

TCU vs. Illinois

- A tough first round draw for brwnbear as he returns for another season at the helm of his dream job. Unfortunately, he's taking on a TCU squad that is already playing at a very high level this season.

Prediction: TCU by 10

Michigan vs. Syracuse

- Sammy will be the mastermind behind an offense that features the most dynamic quarterback in the NDL, Denard Robinson. Early season reports having the Wolverines focusing on a spread option style to try to utilize Shoelaces' speed. Look for Michigan to be way too fast for the Orange to keep up, leaving them blue after the opening round.

Prediction: Michigan by 10

Indiana vs. Arkansas St.

- Another season at the helm for Peay and another season of having to deal with mediocre talent around 1-2 superstars at Indiana. Thankfully for him, he's been able to manage some solid performances the last few seasons. This one should start out on a good note, with a Cup win vs. a small school.

Prediction: Indiana by 13

Minnesota vs. Iowa

- An in-conference matchup to start the Cup will eliminate 1 member from the Quest. More importantly, it pits 2 teams that have been quiet so far this preseason. Based on last year's incredible run by johnny, at Miami, I'll be expecting the Hawkeyes to be able to find McNutt in the air and control the ground game with Robinson. Minnesota is slightly better than last season, but still not on par with most of the B1G.

Prediction: Iowa by 9

Ohio St. vs. Kansas

- The Big 12 (10) squares off against the Big 10 (12) in this showdown between OSU and KU. If it were basketball, I might give justgiver a shot at taking on niddler in his debut with his beloved Buckeyes... unfortunately for him, this one is played on the gridiron and I look for Ohio State to tattoo the Jayhawks.

Prediction: OSU by 14

Houston vs. Nebraska

- After pulling the proverbial Favre on the league, 6ft returns at the helm of the Huskers. His reward for making that decision? Coach RanDawg and his Cougars or received a pleasant return of their own, another year of eligibility for Case Keenum. This game has the potential to be a barn burner.

Prediction: Nebraska by 2

Rutgers vs. Penn St.

- Coach BigRy was thrilled to see me pass on the opportunity to return to Happy Valley. In his Cup opener, he's going to get a look at a rivalry that should really return for Penn St. Rutgers has seriously improved over the last few seasons, but PSU's defense will be one of the top 5 in the country this season and that will be more than enough to slay the Knights.

Prediction: PSU by 10

Troy vs. Purdue

- Purdue comes into the season as a potential candidate to cause problems for the B1G's elite teams. The question will be, how quickly can the Boilermakers adapt to the competition. They will get warmup match as they square off with Troy, but business will pick up in the very near future.

Prediction: Purdue by 13

Northwestern vs. Texas

- NW has quietly become a solid team and they are ready to burst onto the scene with an upset of perennial power Texas. Dan Persa is a dual threat option and the Wildcat D has some talent. The party may have to wait though, as VVV is always tough with his Longhorns.

Prediction: Texas by 6

ULL vs. Wisconsin

- The only thing big enough to prevent Wisconsin from plowing ULL is the internet. And even with the incredible force of the internet, the Badgers still might be up by 35 when it takes over.

Prediction: Wisconsin by 20

Michigan St. vs. Florida

- This matchup is going to tell us a lot about the outlook of the Spartans for this upcoming season. Coach Weasel has absolutely torched opposing defenses for the past few seasons. MSU's hype is all about their running game, behind Edwin Baker, but don't forget the the passing game is still intact with Kirk Cousins, K. Martin, BJ Cunningham and a slew of TEs/RBs capable of catching the rock. Rumor has it that Cousins has been struggling with his accuracy. Can Sparty prevent the TO and harness the speed of the Gators?

Prediction: Florida by 3
