Top 25 Worthy/Unworthy (Weeks 3-4)

Article By: NCAA Dynasty League

#1

After the first block, LSU is still the Number 1 team in both the coaches and media polls. With impressive wins over Tulane and Vanderbilt things will start to get a little tougher for the Tigers as the season goes along. Grabbing over half the #1 votes in the coaches poll, I'll have to agree. WORTHY

#2

The Cornhuskers took the first week of the season off to get ready for Western Michigan in week 2. Knocking them off pretty easily, Nebraska now will have to get ready for some tougher competition in the upcoming weeks. Only time will tell if 6ftdeep is prepared to have another magical season, but he's off to the start he needs. WORTHY

#3

Alabama was on the road for the first 2 weeks of the season and came back both times with victories. Week 1 they beat Army and in Week 2 they traveled to the Valley and beat Fresno State. With 3 Top 25 teams coming up for the Crimson Tide in the next 4 weeks they will have the opportunity to prove me wrong. UNWORTHY

#4

Wisconsin jumped up 5 spots after the first block with impressive victories over Texas A&M and Ole Miss. The Badgers have the next two weeks off, but then have to travel to Michigan State to begin Conference play. Needing to see more before I move them 5 spots I have to say. UNWORTHY

#5

Miami opened the season winning at Michigan State and then turned around and beat Oregon at home in week 2. While neither game was impressive from a defensive stand point, their offense showed they were ready to put up points this season. Going into ACC play the Hurricanes better find something that works on the defensive side of the ball because they want survive shootouts all year, but two impressive victories by anyones standards. WORTHY

#6

Southern Cal decided to open the season with back to back byes and it looks like it hurt them in the rankings. Dropping two spots without playing, the Trojans will look to catch the voters eyes in the upcoming weeks. Two spots should not hurt the Trojans as its very early in the season, but the drop has to have Daw1git scratching his head as to why he fell. WORTHY

#7

Ohio State knocked off Georgia and had a bye for Week 2. Next block will tell us a little more about the Buckeyes, but knocking off a pretty good SEC team in week 1 should at least buy you one more week in the top 10. WORTHY

#8

Jumping 3 spots this week, West Virginia is a team everyone better keep an eye on as the season goes along. The Mountaineers must have been caught looking ahead in week 1, struggling to beat Temple by 3. Beating VA Tech on the road in week 2, the Mountaineers showed why they belong in the top 10. WORTHY

#9

Clemson is another team that got the drop you even if you win treatment from the coaches. Dropping 4 spots, coming off a win over Arkansas, the Tigers will have to start climbing back up in the polls. I can't find the reason that we dropped Clemson, but they will have the chance to prove the coaches wrong as the season goes along. WORTHY

#10

After winning the first 2 games of the season FSU finds themselves in the top 10. Good win in week 1 over Michigan, and then really a fill in game against San Jose St. in week 2 has the Seminoles at 2-0. Wondering if the drought is over for the Seminoles, I can't answer that only time will tell, but for now. WORTHY

#11

The Sooners climbed 4 spots after winning their first two games of the season. Last week I didn't know how Brett1253 would handle a big time program, but after the first block he is off to a good start. Beating Ohio and Kentucky isn't a great accomplishment, so I'll have to hold off a couple more weeks before giving the nod of approval. UNWORTHY

#12

From #19 to #12 the gators are up 7 spots this week. Going and beating Cincinnati on the road in week 1 was a great statement game for the Gators. Beating Minnesota in week 2 was expected, but still a quality win. I didn't have Florida in the Top 25 last week, and 2 games in I can't put them right outside the Top 10. UNWORTHY

#13

The Razorbacks won its opener against a tough Central Florida team, but lost in week 2 to a very good Clemson team. With the SEC schedule coming up Arkansas will have to be really focused or they could hit a slide and fall very quickly. Arkansas is the highest ranked one loss team, and I think their are others that deserve this spot more. UNWORTHY

#14

Penn State jumped 11 spots to claim the #14 spot this week. Knocking off Oregon and Texas in back to back weeks will definately get you noticed. Penn State has a tough road to travel this season, but are off to as good of a start as you can ask for. WORTHY

#15

The Cowboys must have caught the coaches eyes after their week 1 win over Auburn. Over the next block you should see Oklahoma State continue to win and climb up even higher in the polls. Up from #23, I would say thats a pretty fair jump after beating a good SEC team. WORTHY

#16

Houston scored 112 points in the first block of the season against Arizona State and UTEP. Offense isn't going to be a problem for the Cougars, but they need to tighten up that defense if they want to run the table and become a BCS buster. Up from #22 is a fair jump for the Cougars this week. WORTHY

#17

Virginia Tech started the season with a win over SMU, but really didn't show up in the loss to West Virginia in week 2. The Hokies should creep back up in the polls as their schedule is favorable over the next few weeks. VA Tech's loss to West Virginia wasn't expected, but it wasn't suprising either. WORTHY

#18

Unranked last week South Carolina has opened the eyes of the coaches after starting the season 2-0. Knocking off Oregon State and Georgia in back to back weeks has the Gamecocks at #18 this week. Now that South Carolina has the attention of the coaches, lets follow them to see where this great start leads. WORTHY

#19

Cincinnati opened the season with a loss to a Florida team that is turning heads early on. Getting back on track with a victory over Marshall in week 2 was a good sign for the Bearcats to turning it around quickly. With Michigan State coming up the Bearcats will need to win that game or they will probably not even be ranked next week. Losing to Florida isn't the worst thing that can happen, but Cincinnati will need to get back on track quckly or they will lose the respect of the voters. WORTHY

#20

Texas Tech is another new team jumping into the Top 25 after wins over Pittsburgh and Tulsa. The Red Raiders still have a lot to prove, but will get that chance in the up coming weeks when Conference play begins. Starting 2-0 is never a bad thing and knocking off a team like Pittsburgh gets you noticed. WORTHY

#21

Michigan State fell 7 spots after a tough loss to Miami in a game that went to double over time. With a week 2 bye the Spartans have a couple big games coming up that could really jump them back up in the polls. WORTHY

#22

Wins over TCU and Troy has gotten Kansas State into the Top 25 after the first couple weeks of the season. With a favorable game coming up and a couple bye weeks Kansas State should hang around in the next couple weeks. WORTHY

#23

The Aggies opened up the season with an expected loss to Wisconsin, but got back on track with a win over Syracuse in week 2. With the schedule coming up Texas A&M could go climb in the polls or they could drop very fast, we will see. Losing to Wisconsin didn't suprise anyone and thats why the Aggies are still ranked. WORTHY

#24

The Irish jump into the Top 25 this week, coming off victories over Purdue and Michigan. With Michigan State and Stanford coming up Notre Dame has the opportunity to really impress the voters in the next couple weeks. WORTHY

#25

Texas drops 8 spots to #25 after starting the season 1-1. The Longhorns beat North Carolina in week 1, but lost to Penn State the following week. One more loss would drop Texas out completely, but their holding on as of right now. WORTHY

Others To Look At

Memphis: Off to a 2-0 start with wins over Syracuse and East Carolina. Favorable schedule coming up, look for Memphis to crack the Top 25 in the coming weeks

Indiana: Started with a bye, but knocked off UCONN in week 2. Florida Atlantic and Tennessee coming up before Conference play begins is a good opportunity for the Hoosiers to jump in.

Navy: Beat Troy and Colrado State to open the season. Huge game with Boise State coming up to keep an eye on.

North Texas: Victories over Northern Illinois and Colorado has the Mean green off to a 2-0 start. Stay tuned

Southern Miss: 2-0 with wins over Eastern Michigan and Washington State. Huge game coming up against Virginia Tech and a toss up against Louisville.
