Southern Miss strive for bowl

Article By: NCAA Dynasty League

Following three straight losing seasons, the Golden Eagles were looking for a new coach to come in and try to turn things around. Coach Huskerskev wasn't tops on their list, but wasn't the last option either. Coach Kev brings an explosive offense about anywhere he goes, but the defense lacks year in and year out. Following a string of five straight, 8 win seasons, anticipation is high across campus.

Southern Miss filled it's OOC schedule with 3 BCS conference teams so things won't be easy. Here is a rundown of the first half of the season. Finishing the first half at 4-2 would be a success, but 3-3 is more likely.

Week 1 - vs Eastern Michigan - This will be somewhat of a mystery game. Coach Outrage is getting his first shot in the NDL as a head coach and it's also the season opener for both teams.

Week 2 - @ Washington St. - The first road test of the season will be on the west coast against a Pac 10 squad. Coach Cougnix was 4-8 the last two seasons at both Baylor and UCLA.

Week 3 - @ Virginia Tech - Last season the Hokies finished in the top 10 and this season won't be any different. This will be the most talented team we face all season. Coach VTrunNgun is a combined 22-3 the past 2 seasons. Fans are just hoping to avoid an embarrassment.

Week 4 - vs Louisville - Coach footballkelly31 brings his Cardinals from the Big East to Mississippi. The Cardinals finished just 1-11 last season and are hoping to build on that this year. Teams almost always improve the 2nd season a coach stays, so expect the Cardinals to make progress.

Week 5 - vs Marshall - Conference play begins. Coach Niddler took Oregon St. to 8 wins last season before making the move to the C-USA. In 3 seasons has yet to have a season below .500, so will definitely make some noise this year.

Week 6 - vs East Carolina - Back for the 2nd go around with Pirates. In Season 19 finished 11-2 and won the C-USA championship before bolting for Oregon. After a not as successful 7-6 season, he goes back to where he's had his most success. Has to be considered one of the league favorites.
