Article By: (AP) - Coach John24 is ready to take the reigns over the Rice Owls as the NDL moves into season 21. A brand new coach to the NDL, John had this to say; regarding his prediction on his first season coaching the Owls, " Looking at the quality owners that have remained and moved into Conference USA this season we may be looking at a slow start to my career, our players are ready to go, but the lack of speed is going to be our biggest obstacle. To start practice this off-season we will be taking a page out of the Mississippi playbook and trying to run their primarily shotgun-based spread offense. The key to our success on offense is going to be behind the legs of Sam McGuffie, for those of you who don't know he is a transfer student from the University of Michigan.

But, the crutch of this team is their defense and its 4-2-5, this is lead by their Free Safety. The game that we are especially looking forward to is when we travel to Tennessee to take on the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee State, where my twin brother Matt was just picked up to be their next head coach. My hopes for this season is for our team to finish 3-9." I would say after watching these guys in practice, Coach John24's prediction of a 3-9 record may be a little low, but it is still too early to tell. All I know is that for Rice's opponents they should not overlook this Owl team, they are a very disciplined team.
