This game could potentially be a preview of the Conference USA Championship. Each team has slipped up once this season, although Houston's was actually to a superior opponent. The Cougars lost to Texas Tech but easily put away a struggling Nebraska while ECU let turnovers get the best of them against Troy. Keys to the game: Both of these teams are pass first, run second teams. Over 75% of each of the teams' offense is through the air, and each team is almost nearly identical in total offense. THE UnTouchable Prediction: These teams match up well on paper, but based on the quality of opponents played so far, it's easy to make an assumption on who will prevail. Houston edges ECU, 23-21.
#10 Michigan Wolverines 3-1 (0-0 Big Ten)sammy33 @ Northwestern Wildcats 3-1 (0-1 Big Ten)chuskerpride
Michigan is clinging to their high preseason ranking but isn't quite doing much to prove they belong in the Top 10. Sure, they're scoring a lot, but they're not putting up much offense. That's because their turnover margin is higher than +2, which could be a testament to a strong defense, but I think it's more a sign of weak opponent offenses. Northwestern has the lowest turnover average of any team the Wolverines have played so far. Could be an interesting game. Keys to the game: As mentioned, turnovers are crucial. Northwestern will want to prepare for more of a ground attack as they have only seen an average of 54 rush yards per game so far this season. The Wolverines average nearly 140. THE UnTouchable Prediction: All things considered, the Wolverines seemed poised enough to take the Wildcats out of their element. Michigan wins 33-17.
Others to watch for:
Louisville Cardinals 3-0 (0-0 Big East) mcx79 @ Cincinnati Bearcats 2-1 (0-0 Big East) UCWeiser
---With West Virginia stumbling to UConn, the Big East is as wide open as it's ever been before.
#13 Ohio State 3-2 (0-1 Big Ten) the_niddler @ #15 Nebraska Cornhuskers 2-1 (0-0 Big Ten) 6ftdeep
---The loser of this game is on perfect track to make the Meineke Car Care Bowl at the end of the season.
#12 Oklahoma Sooners 2-1 (0-0 Big 12) bearass @ Texas Longhorns 2-2 (0-1 Big 12) VeniVediV1ci
---Both teams have suffered upset losses this season. Who will make it out of the Red River Rivalry victorious?
WEEK 8
#14 Air Force Falcons 4-0 (1-0 MWC)john24 @ #2 Boise State Broncos 3-1 (0-0 MWC)nole4real
Over-ranked teams? Some could argue. Boise State definitely expects to drop after its loss to Ohio State. What you can't argue is the surprise that is Air Force that seemingly came out of nowhere. They're not just winning games, they're dominating them, winning by an average of 3 touchdowns. Boise State and TCU would have been early favorites to win the Mountain West. Now it seems like the Falcons are the ones to catch. Keys to the game: The Falcons currently rank 2nd in rushing yards per game (219) and 2nd in points per game (35). Four players have found the endzone on the ground. The Broncos will need to find a way to stop the dual-threat of QB Tim Jefferson if they want to keep up. THE UnTouchable Prediction: The Broncos aren't putting up enough points to keep up with high-powered offense of the Falcons. Air Force continues rolling, 38-13.
BYU knew they wouldn't have the "Notre Dame clause" in their contracts when they went independent, but that just means they'll have to make each big game count if they want some postseason love. Time will tell if their Florida State win will pan out, but they'll definitely need to seal this game if they want any strength of schedule votes. Arkansas, on the other hand, is looking to rebound after their loss to #1 Alabama. They've still got game against #5 South Carolina and #9 LSU, but they shouldn't look past the Cougars. Keys to the game: The Razorbacks are punishing their opponents on defense, averaging over 4 sacks per game and only giving up 10 points per game. They'll need to continue this trend against an already feeble Cougar offense. THE UnTouchable Prediction: The Razorback defense just seems too much for the Cougars. Arkansas wins 20-7.
Others to watch for:
#10 Michigan Wolverines 3-1 (0-0 Big Ten) sammy33 @ Michigan State Spartans 4-0 (1-0 Big Ten) Weasel
---The Spartans upset Notre Dame and Ohio State. Can they do the same to Michigan?
#5 South Carolina Gamecocks 6-0 (3-0 SEC) ChampDizzle @ Mississippi State Bulldogs 4-1 (1-1 SEC) Steamrollr22
---The Gamecocks are rolling but they shouldn't look past Mississippi State and their high-powered offense, which currently ranks 1st in the SEC.
