Michigan State came into NDL Season 20 with relatively modest expectations. Having just come off a 6-6 (5-3) record in Season 19, the program was growing stagnant. In the preseason Big Ten coaches poll, the Spartans were picked to finish last in the conference, not even getting a vote from their own coach.
However, it didnt take long for these players to realize they could play with anybody. The season opened with four consecutive games against ranked opponents, with MSU winning three of them. From there the team was able to ride the play of Kirk Cousins on offense and Greg Jones on defense, catching a lifetime worth of luck along the way.
The result was Michigan States first NDL Big Ten Championship. Unfortunately MSU drew the short stick and missed out on their chance to play in their first NDL BCS game, settling for
the Capital One Bowl against a very solid Tennessee squad. The victory put MSU at 11-2 for the season, their best finish and the first time coach Weasel had won ten or more games in a season since
his days at Bowling Green. The Spartans look to continue their success despite the obligate increase in expectations. However, it is a challenge greeted with excitement, as coach Weasel continues to try and raise the bar in East Lansing
