Article By: Coach Dak, back at Rutgers for his second consecutive and sixth overall season, met the press today to discuss the upcoming season.
"We're switching things up this season and trying to spark an offense that was one of the worst in the league last year," Coach Dak noted at the start of the press conference.
"This season we're running the spread option, similar to what you'd see being run by Oregon or Mississippi State. This means a chance for Chas Dodd to use his legs for something once in a while. But this will also mean that Mo Sanu will be behind center once in a while as he was his freshmen year. We're comfortable with Mo back there as he still has enough power and accuracy with his throws to be a dual threat that the defense must respect when he gets called into the situation."
When pressed about the pace of his new offense, Coach Dak said the following: "Well, we'd sure like to run the no huddle the entire game, but we're running into some logistics problems with that right now. We'll still run at a pretty fast pace with minimal time between snaps, but the no huddle is on the shelf for now."
As the topic turned to defense, Coach Dak exhibited a little more uncertainty in the team's plans. "We were toying with the idea of running a real straight 3-4 defense, but we may need to modify our playbook to include some additional defenses with four down linemen. We're still experimenting with a few things there."
Finally, when asked about his predictions for the season Coach Dak responded, "I think we'll meet our expectations, two wins, but beyond that I'm not willing to comment."
