Here is the first edition of the Flavorful 8! We are through the first block of games, time to see which teams have the most appetizing outlooks!
8. BOISE STATE--We will see if Big Mike is for real or not with the Smurf-n-Turfers. A Block 2 matchup AT Ohio State will give a good measuring stick as to whether they are deserving of a title shot should they win out. A loss will pretty much deny them any hope at that BCS title game.
7. LSU--Yes, somehow Cheez Wiz makes the "Flavorful 8". Hey, some people like the nasty creamy yellowish substance, it's very popular in NASCAR infields, trailer parks, and LSU tailgates. And 311 concerts, I'm guessing.
6. TEXAS--This team is a bit of a tough one to read. Yes, they're 2-0; but they've struggled to beat teams that they should be handling quite easily. It looks like they can score quite often, but can't stop anybody from scoring unless they force turnovers--which bodes poorly for them with Texas Tech waiting in Block 2.
5. OHIO STATE--The Buckeyes opened with a 20-14 victory over a tough Georgia team, but showed signs that they could falter. Block 2 games against Boise State and Miami will decide if this team moves up or down--in short, in a week they'll either look like Ruth's Cris filet mignon, or Skyline chili. After it's gone through the digestive system.
4. OKLAHOMA--A 2-0 record with a 48-10 scoring margin gets you noticed. A tough road win at Autzen Stadium vs the Ducks of Oregon gets you into the Flavorful 8. Holding the Ducks' offense, one of the best in the nation, to FORTY YARDS of total offense? That gets you a top-4 spot.
3. VIRGINIA TECH--Chase got his boys and has won both a tough rivalry game on the road, and a tough defensive struggle at home. Michigan looms on the horizon, can he keep his boys moving forward and keep them on-deck should one of the two teams ahead of him stumble?
2. FLORIDA--The Gators won their first two games by a combined score of 66-9, and Coach Daw1git has them looking to duplicate the success of past seasons. A road test against Florida in Block 2 will decide whether they hold their spot, or whether they suffer a mighty fall down the rankings.
1. ALABAMA --Coach Biffy not only has the best team on the game, he has them rolling--outscoring his first two opponents 72-3. I don't care how bad the two teams he faced were, 72-3 is just pure dominance. Biffy's Tide will hold the title of Pièce de résistance until he loses.
