I wish I knew...so I can stop doing whatever it is that is causing the problem. The first time it died completely...this time it has stopped reading discs. So I think I used a different mechanism to phuck it up this time.

I move mine between upstairs and downstairs alot so I'm sure it something I did...I think I'm going to buy a dedicated blu-ray player so I don't have to move it to watch blu-rays in the bedroom. The Sony sucks thing is just frustration...I had my PSOne break twice, my PS2 break twice...so I'm just pissed that I can't break this f-ing pattern.

Nole...teledubbie has a cat too (his is hypoallegeric, maybe that played a role)....and cat hair is two words.

I noticed that about 10 minutes into playing CoD5 (or any game for that matter) I can hear the fan really kick on and start working. Now this might be a result of the disc really spinning or the thing is getting hot. But I've got plenty of ventilation, and when I vacuum my place I be sure to pull dust out of the vents. Hopefully I'm not looking at an issue, but who knows.

I went thru 1.5 million PS2s. It got to the point that I wouldn’t even try to fix them anymore. I would unplug the thing, throw it in the trash, drive to Wal-Mart, and be back playing in 30 minutes.

i think i had 3.

...i still had a problem with my ps3 and that was before i started watching non-jsence approved videos on there because fucking my ps3 up is less expensive than my laptop

I agree...this seems to be happening more and more lately.

I move mine as well suns.

A while back i would have sworn the problems were tied to these PSN updates. I never had any problems until on in particular came out (dont recall wqhich one off the top of my head)

I havent had probems beyond it freezing once every other night, and the fan issue like Dak mentioned

My shit has been doing that too. For all of you guys that had PS3 crash on them was this a precursor? Although I had no problems what so ever for the 14 months in Iraq with the fan sounding loud it has just started this past week or so. I know while I was in Iraq I used compressed air to blow it out routinely I have yet to do that in the 3 or so weeks I've had it since returning.

Nah, not at all Georges. First time, it froze while playing COD4....then just wouldn't cut back on ever again.

This time..I was trying to play the "Sunshine" blu-ray...shyt took like 3 minutes to recognize there was a disc in there....the next night I tried to finish watching it...but it kept saying unrecognized disc or something like that.... In neither case did I experience the loud fan issues...so I'd imagine you all are probably okay in that regard.

I tried several other discs...including ps3 games...and it does nothing...The circle in the top right makes it seem like the system is trying to do something, but the disc never shows up on the XMB. Heard a rumor about a price cut to 199..would just hold out on a new system but I don't want to lose backward compatibility.

Suns...mine racked up over 140 segments on just american airlines in my backpack last year on my business trips all over gods green earth. So unless you are draging it up and down the stairs on a bungee cord, that cant be it.

It seems like Sony put the necessary software in the ps store if u have a new system and want backwards compatibility. But I culd be wrong

The 40, 80, and 160 GB version are not promised to play all PS2 games as they removed the Emotion Engine chip that was in the PS2 and that was in the first 20 and 60 GB PS3s. There are 60 and 80 GB versions that will emulate the PS2 processor so that most PS2 games will play, but not all are promised to work.

This was a cost cutting move by Sony, but considering they can assure some compatibility through software emulation I don't know why they still don't include that.

I still have the same PS2 that I got a month after it was released and my 7 year old son has been using it for the last 2 years with no problems.
