Playa Mujeres, Mexico (Cancun)
Playa Mujeres, Mexico (Cancun)
i'm going to Playa Mujeres for a friends 30th birthday tomorrow thru Sunday. i've never been to Mexico and not really too excited. i typically enjoy more adventure travel than i do relaxing travel. we're staying at the excellence playa mujeres which is an all inclusive (first time at one of those too).
i think it's like 20 minutes outside of Cancun. given its all inclusive i doubt i'll leave the resort other than to golf in the mornings.
is there anything i should see/do while in that area that anyone has done or recommends?

Honeymooned in Playa del Carmen for 10 days at an all inclusive and it was the best hotel experience ever. 7 onsite restaurants you don't pay for anything at all and it was nonstop eating and drinking. Order something at dinner, don't like it? Order something else or order 2 dinners.
It's a little over an hour away from mujeres and there was a ton of things to do in between. Zip lining, ruins were awesome and my favorite were the cenotes. Definitely try to snorkel an excursion day in one of those if you can.
Those hotels all have filtered systems but be careful when you leave the property and ensure you get bottled water and don't drink drinks with ice. It's not a myth about the water in Mexico.
You will have a blast, enjoy!

Utilize the concierge for the cenotes and ruins. They will arrange a guide and usually a small group or private to head out there for you.
Driving can get dicey there and I don't recommend venturing on your own. Get a driver and a private or small group tour of a cenotes and ruins.

Stayed in Riviera Maya, south of Cancun... a good trip to Xcaret is about the only reason to leave for sights. You can have some fun in Playa if you want to mingle with the locals. On a short trip like that, I'd stick to the resort and only leave if the trip/offering looked amazing.
We did a 4 wheeler / jet ski combo adventure there... a lot of fun, but nothing I couldn't have done in any other ocean city.

i'm going to be working tomorrow and friday on my laptop during the day then golfing after. but hopefully i can get to one of those cenotes, those look sweet and are exactly what i'd like to do/see.
other than that i might take some salsa classes, a yoga class and just get drunk at the pool.
i wish the golf was included, i'd just play all day.

Yup. They have vans that pick you up whereever you are. There are half day and full day excursions to go repelling, jet skiing, ruins, even clubbing in cancun.Cnasty wrote:Utilize the concierge for the cenotes and ruins. There will be a tour company in your hotel. Use them. Their prices may be a little higher but they will be more reputable than the street vendors. Also, if not already planned make sure you make the dinner reservations when you check in. Some restaurants have limited availability.
Also. Ask to see if they have Don Julio instead of the house tequila for drinks. Tip your bartender or server a 20 right off the bat. You won't ever have to wait for a drink.
I've been close to 10 times to different resorts but my fave was always the RIU PAlace. Most are going to be similar and my tips will be applicable.
Text me if you have questions. You'll love the all inclusive experience. It almost spoils you.

I've been to Mexico twice... both times I had a blast hanging out with the locals that worked there. I'm not sure what the situation was, but they had employees that were constantly running volleyball games, kayaking stuff, pool games, etc... and it seemed like a lot of them hung around outside of their scheduled shifts (I'm guessing hanging out at a resort with 'friends' beats going back home, lol).

15 beers deep, in the pool all day, smoked a lady in the face playing football in the pool.
i apologized, she was super butch mean i hate the world lady. i smoothed it over with a smile and positive mindset but it could have got bad. i offered to pay for her 350$ glasses that i supposedly broke. she ended up telling me i was a sweetie. life is good. mexico sucks but all inclusives are fun.
