Playstation Vita

Post by Cnasty »

I couldn't think of any scenario of where I might actually use this but may be coming into one as a gift since I talked so much about the PS4 with my family at Thanksgiving.

Before returning it possibly, anyone have it and use any of that remote stuff with the PS4 or actually enjoy using the device?

I was surprised how cheap it was for around $200 for a bundle with games, memory cards, and all of that if buying new.

Willing to give it a try but would rather not open it if I am going to return it.

Dont know why, but I found this funny

Can you play the regular PS4 games from the Vita? If so, I guess that may be cool (although having enough downtime by yourself to justify it may be another story). Portable gaming just never really intrigued me too much

It was quite funny and my sister made massive headset/COD nerd references all week.

What could I say? It was new and fresh and it took my heart the moment I bought it.

I dont know anything about that remote play stuff for the PS4 but should read up on it.

Never had much interest in mobile gaming either. Maybe if I wanted to lay in bed and play NBA2K on the Vita versus the living room? Real world problems ya know.

Is that a question? If so,yes. Very different as we have established.

I am reading that yes, you can play any PS4 game remotely among any PS+ games for the Vita. Thats pretty cool but again, where and when would I use this? In my office?
The PS Vita is different though and a far closer match for the PlayStation 4 in terms of technology and inputs. But does that mean that you’ll be able to play PlayStation 4 games on your Vita no matter where you are and what you’re doing? The answer is yes, but only if you set it up correctly.

I picked up a Vita recently. Plenty of free games via PS+ and remote play on your home network for PS4 games (there are videos of people playing things like Killzone: Shadowfall on their Vita). Alternatively, it also provides an easy system to take with you when you travel somewhere so you can get a little gaming in, whether it is travel with the family or for business.

The only downside is that you have to have a memory card and if you're downloading the game you may need several unless you want to spring for a big expensive card or you want to constantly be uninstalling/reinstalling games. That being said, they're coming down in price (I think you can find a 16 GB for $20 and you can put at least 4 games on something that size).

It is far and away the best portable gaming system I've ever played with.

Do you have the most recent one versus the older one?

Good info, thanks.

I bought the one that was in the Limited Edition Walking Dead Bundle.

It's the PCH-1101 version, which I'm pretty sure is the older one. From what I've read, the screen is much better on these in comparison to the newer ones.

Also, it has 3G and Wi-Fi, but I'll never use nor activate the 3G, I don't have need for that.

Was just reading a bit more on that as well and what I have read seems to be the same with the screen being OLED versus a LCD on the new one.

They took the better screen off to cut price and an hour or 2 of battery life.

The remote play for the PS4 is a pretty sweet idea and from what I have seen works great if it is setup correctly.

How often do you think you use it a week honestly?

Honestly, 2-3 hours tops. I used Sony points from my credit card so the system didn't cost me anything really (and traded in my old PSP and the games I had for that).

If I traveled for work or had a commute on a train or something, it would be awesome.

It's also rather hard to find games in the store for it. Even Gamestops will only have a few and not many used ones (that can be had in their Buy 2 get 1 Free sales). There are plenty of games to download, and demos, though, so you can try most stuff before buying.

Most stores like Target or Walmart by me don't even carry games for it, and Best Buy has maybe a dozen or so.

My coworker has one and he uses his quite often when at home in bed he said.
His PS4 is in the living room and uses this when in the bedroom.

He stated that if he were married, it would be perfect if the wife is lying in bed reading a book.

For me, I cannot imagine that I would use it a lot.
There are times where my wife wants to watch something on the living room tv where my PS4 is, so during those times it would be cool.

But it is a cool system.
And I apologize, I didn't read through every post, but you can use it on any wifi system.

So his PS4 is at home in his living room and he has his Vita here at work and will play a game now and again.

Wouldn't that be when you use the actual PS4?

That is what I do and why I do not have a need for it, but I could understand some wanting to use it then.

The use it on any Wi-Fi system claim (from Sony) is a little dubious. From What I've read, if you're at home and you connect to the PS4 directly on the network (and don't use your router) it works great, but some features in some games are a little clunky with the Vita (as an example, they only have one set of shoulder buttons so...). But if you try to connect via a router, or try to connect from a remote location on another network (not on your home network) it is extremely unreliable.

I'll test it out when my PS4 gets here the end of the month.

My coworker used his in his apt. when we were all there for a launch party of the PS4 and it worked flawlessly through his router and he was playing Lego Marvel from the PS4.

That can work if you have a very good router. If you're home, though, you can direct connect (wirelessly) to the PS4 and it should work even better (one less thing in the loop). There is little reason to connect via the router at home.

However, I've heard things more or less don't work if you try to connect to your PS4 at home while you're on a different network somewhere else (at work let's say). Not sure if it is supposed to work that way though.

Anyway, I hope it works great as I think I'd make some use of it at home. Some reviews said it does, some it doesn't. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that my experience is like your coworkers.

Maybe he had his connected wirelessly directly to his PS4 and I just assumed he was just on his network.
