3rd and 1.....
I haven't played the game much the last two versions. Am I missing something in regards to short yardage situations? I have had numerous 3rd and 1 situations get absolutely blown the fuck up when running for a conversion. In one case my QB got fucking sacked before even executing the hand-off. I on the other hand can't stop shit on 3rd down. Granted I have a D team, I get that, but still seems like I am missing something. At this point, I feel like I need to throw every 3rd and short to convert. Just wanting to get some feedback, usually I am able to run the ball on this game, but right now it's an impossible feat. The defense of about half the guys I have played so far seem to know where the play is going before my offensive player gets there. Could be just this team, but I have seen it in scrims with better teams as well.

I like FB dive in that situation....however if they have been jamming the middle a good QB option might work.

Yeah the only thing I have seem to have success with is the FB. Either dives or triple option gives.....but even that has been blown up on occasions. I have had my FB getting hit right after the ball is given to him. The first few times, I figured WTF EA? But the more and more I see it the more it irritates the piss out of me. I don't wanna be a douche and start fake snapping every time either, I hate the fact that the screen moves like it does. I never mess with stunting or any of that bullshit, so it could be that. More wondering if there are things you can do protection wise to help.

I have a D team as well and if I try to run on 3rd and short I usually get blown up too. I've noticed a lot of people like to blitz on that down to stop that conversion, but I run a shotgun and if you complete a quick pass and totally screw the blitz then from there on out the defense tends to loosen up a bit and less blitz's get called in fear of getting screwed with not coverage. Once that happens you can run a draw or a quick run, but then again I have a D rated team and this doesn't always work. Just a little something that may help you out, it works for me, not always, but it helps.

i have an A+ team (albeit extremely overrated) and i struggle to convert on the play with a power run offense. it's amazing what EA does with this game

See I figured that too, but I could blitz to my hearts content and not stop that conversion. In fact my team seems to get out of place and give up more yards on the run when blitzing. This game has some quirks to it that's for sure.

So your not so much just talking about converting on offense but stopping it when your on defense too?? My defense sucks so I don't really know how to stop that conversion. I almost give up on trying to stop the 3rd and 1 and try not to give up a touchdown doing it. I've been burned too much on short conversions that I don't go crazy trying to stop a first down anymore.Old Kentucky Shark wrote:Whittness10 wrote:I have a D team as well and if I try to run on 3rd and short I usually get blown up too. I've tried a ton of different plays up the middle in that situation, Maryland I, Power I, Pistol HB zone run, and others and I consistently get blown up. I understand that a lower rated team like mine should struggle at times when faced with that situation but it shouldn't be every single time. To be honest, the one play I've found that works best on short yardage is a draw out of shotgun. Then you can at least get a look at the defense and where the hole may be and try to hit it. This is also my strategy for dating.

The simple HB dive doesn't work as well, i've noticed.
FB dives are still good. And then running off tackle or even an HB blast where you're not going directly behind the center works pretty good as well.

VVV said it already with his A rated team, but I've got a B+ team and I've been stopped a few times like that as well by much lower teams as well. I think it's an EA thing along with probably the other user crashing down and blitzing.
