My fantasy squad -- Hoops addition

Post by DRiccio21 »

i don't know how many guys actually play fantasy basketball... it's my favorite for obvious NBA addiction reasons.

here is my squad ...

16 team league
start 4 guards, 4 forwards, 2 centers, 1 flex (so basically everyone is taken)
categories are points, assists, rebounds, blocks, steals, 3pointers, ft%, fg%

Guards -- E. Gordon, T. Parker, N. Young, B. Knight, L. Ridnour, J. Bayless, T. Mcgrady, G. Arenas
Forwards -- K. Love, C. Frye, C. Delfino, A. Johnson, R. Jefferson
Centers -- A. Bogut, J. McGee

so far, the injuries to Gordon and Delfino hurt me so i'm middle of the pack, but my team is very good. if Gordon had played instead of me getting 0's i'd probably be in the top 2 or 3 overall. right now i'm 7th. I'm struggling with assists, steals, ft% and i'm very strong with rebounds, blocks and to an extent 3's.

i was just offered CP3 for Tony Parker and J. McGee

i usually always accept deals for superstars and CP3 is obviously a superstar. but with Ginobili out a month, Parker should really pick it up and McGee is a breakout candidate who is already playing well... its a tough call. i have the excess in rebounds so losing McGee will hurt my blocks and the deal would help my needs at assists, steals and ft%.

thoughts on the deal? should i do it or stay with my team?

100/100 u gotta do that deal. CP3 is a top 3 pick, thats selling at the lowest of lows ever, even is Parker/McGee are good theyre not 1st round talent.

i'm so desperate for opinions on this deal i actually read this post. thanks

i feel ya, i agree.

but in a 16 team league that starts 2 centers and 11 players, its hard to deal 2 really good guys. although the deal does fit my needs.

i am really torn. its probably a very fair deal.

I'm in a couple of interesting keeper leagues... really enjoy fantasy basketball...

That's a very tough call. I don't think I could tell you to pull the trigger on it, unless I knew you were able to get something useful on the FA market. (Which in a 16 team league, I'm doubting)

Is Love C eligible in your league?

If so, Bogut / Love can work, which allows you to find a sleeper F, maybe Tristan Thompson, DJ White, Jerebko?

2 things to think about... you can likely dominate blocks in your league with Bogut/McGee/Johnson together. And CP3 isn't going to be called upon to score anymore than he is right now. So don't expect any real increase in any stat you see right now and likely expect a slight drop off in steals, since he is sitting at 2.5 per game right now. He's done it before, but I don't think it's going to continue.

As for Parker, his scoring will go up to about 15-16 per game while Manu is out, but I wouldn't expect his other stats to move much.

In the end, if you can get a reliable 25-30 min per game, solid contributor, and Love is C eligible, I'd probably do it. Only because in a 16 team league, Bogut with help from Amir Johnson, can keep you close to the top of blocks and the bump you'd likely see from Paul in steals/assists over Parker should be enough to make up any point difference between you and the leader in blocks (if it's not you).

good analysis. i'm in agreement pretty much word for word.

there aren't any real options on the free agent market due to the size of our rosters and 16 teams.

Love isn't C eligible... he could get it if he got some starts but i don't see that happening. Channing Frye is C eligible. If he was playing better and there wasn't already a log jam in Phoenix at the 4/5, i'd feel better about sliding him into the 2nd C spot. moving Frye to C would force me into using Delfino, Johnson and Jefferson (who should be fine now with Ginobili out) every week alongside Love since i have no other F's.

i don't have any other C eligible guys on my roster... just Bogut, McGee, Frye.

the trade probably makes me better and helps my needs, but it makes me thin at F and C and makes me take on alot of risk.

Johnson isn't C eligible either? That's harsh. I couldn't do the deal like that then.

Any chance you can work in a C from his roster? I'm sure it won't be anyone great, but at least something worthwhile? What if you add in McGrady, who has better than expected numbers right now, but I think will fall off as Teague takes full control of the team.

i have been trying all day.

its just so hard with the lack of depth. he has Tiago Splitter and Mehmet Okur that i'm trying to get him to throw in one of them and i'd throw in TMac... he's not feeling it tho.

i won my league last year, but I did almost everything I could not to play this year until I was forced into playing.

Even though I'm the commissioner, I missed the first two draft picks (Dirk then Carmelo) and I hate them so much.

My squad is PG heavy so I should have an advantage with assists and steals, but the turnovers are almost a guaranteed loss and it hurts FG% as well.

You take the deal.

Not only do you have to look at who you get in the deal, you must also factor in who you can add to take up the new bench spot. Once you factor THAT in, you take it.

Especially if you can pick up a C like Dalembert, Hayes, or Hawes off the waiver wire to get you rebounds/blocks.

you're thinking of a normal league.

in my league, the best available C is Johan Petro.

One of my goals this year is to get more into Basketball so I thought I would do my first fantasy basketball team. Its a 10 team Roto league. I had the 2nd pick and the categories are Points (PTS) , Blocks (BLK), Steals (STL), Assists (AST), Rebounds (REB), Three Pointers Made (3PM), Field Goal Percentage (FG%), Free Throw Percentage (FT%).

You start 10 players and have 3 bench spots. PG, SG, SF, PF, C, G, F, Utility, Utility, Utility.

Stephen Curry, GS - PG/SG
O.J. Mayo, Mem - SG
Kyrie Irving, Cle PG
Jrue Holiday, Phi PG
Wesley Matthews, Por SG/SF
LeBron James, Mia SF
Pau Gasol, LAL PF/C
Greg Monroe, Det PF/C
Danilo Gallinari, Den SF/PF
J.J. Hickson, Sac PF, C
DeAndre Jordan, LAC C
DeJuan Blair, SA C/PF
Corey Maggette, Cha SF

What you think of my team?

It's just a keeper league amongst friends. Don't get as many as we do for football/baseball.

Don't cave in Dave... get one of those guys. Sell him on McGee's ability to push him near the top in blocks and if he brings up the FT%, just tell him that McGee only averages 3 FTA per game, so it doesn't do as much damage. You can talk him into it. :-)

Tyrus Thomas on waivers? He's been injured, just has to beat out DJ White.

no.

only guys on waivers are really guys who do absolutely nothing.

gotta catch a guy off an injury before another guy sees some sort of trade/roster move that shakes up a depth chart.

i decided not to make the trade... if i can find a C off free agency or in another deal, i may reconsider but not until i can shore up the roster.
