Looking back on old coaches: Week 1 - Jeffmo
Looking back on old coaches: Week 1 - Jeffmo
post stories, memories, bullet points, random facts, pictures, whatever you got.
we'll do a new 'old coach' each week.
when we get done i'll make a quick bio of the person based on everything we have and maybe we could get it linked to their Hall of Fame page

Re: Looking back on old coaches: Week 1 - Jeffmo
Found out randomly that he grew up in a house in the same subdivision as Johnny and I, went to the same schools K-12.
Re: Looking back on old coaches: Week 1 - Jeffmo
Called me up screaming drunk one day yelling at me for not coming to meet him. It took him a bit to realize he never told me where or when to go anywhere.
Re: Looking back on old coaches: Week 1 - Jeffmo
I deleted him off my PSN list a few weeks ago. He hadn’t been on in 4 months so I finally gave in that he’s not coming back.

Thought there was more speed in the North than in the South.

I'm fairly certain I didn't get an invite, lol. Hell, I specifically remember watching that game, definitely didn't go anywhere and miss that one.Cnasty wrote:You were busy doing something. I forgot what it was.

We rarely did anything or went anywhere in the Chantel days.

Maybe because you didnt know Judd and might have been a little awkward.
Who knows. Or maybe Nole and I knew you would cancel NDL Florida style and didnt bother.

Jeffmo
Like many of us, Jeffmo had been part of many failed leagues. He took those experiences and learned from the mistakes of other leagues. He was one of the first guys that was smart enough to come up with solutions to problems that had plagued leagues since the beginning of online play.
Some of his innovations:
Accountability. He implemented a system that allowed players to be graded by other coaches. Over time, this would create a coaching profile that could be used to evaluate coaches and see if they were meeting NDL standards.
Retention. Jeffmo figured out early ways to protect the league's less talented players. No league can survive when it has to replace to bottom 10% of its roster each season. The 35 point rule was implemented to keep those players from getting frustrated by constant blowout losses. There was even a special Bowl (Toilet Bowl) for the two worst teams in the league.
Community. Any league that is entirely focused on the game of football and nothing else will fail. Under Jeffmo, the NDL took some of the focus off the game and put it on the other things. The message board became the central feature of the league. The league also early on branched into other games. Socom became the alternative game played by many league members. The board and games like Socom helped to form bonds and has giving the NDL staying power.
Minor League System. The NDL was the first league to establish a farm system. The Farm provided the NDL with quality, proven depth. When the NDL lost a member, it was an easy transition to bring in a new coach.
Others can add on to this.
PS: The Toilet Bowl needs to come back next season.
