How we vote?
Not looking for a debate here, just wondering what logic so of you use for your polls. For myself I throw last weeks out for the most part and start over listing all the undefeated teams, and them weight if any 1 or 2 loss teams warrant being ranked higher than any of the team yet to lose.
Re: How we vote?
i base mine on a system of numbers, where u get penalized for losing at home moreso than on the road and for every loss a +1 is added to your rankings, the lower the better. undefeated will forever sit above any 1 loss team unless they have a poor sos.
Re: How we vote?
Yep, that is exactly how i do it. Look at the undefeateds (look at the SOS a bit)- then check out the 1 losses and 2 losses taking into consideration if the losses came to a powehouse team/owner- then I fill it with those owners who haven't gotten as many games in and the up and comers.
Re: How we vote?
I put the mascot of every team into a virtual arena where they fight en masse until there is one lone victor.
I then rank the teams based on their order of exit, first place being the victor, second being the last mascot eviscerated, and so forth, until I have the top 25.
Inevitably it comes down to The Crimson Tide, The Green Wave, and The Golden Hurricane, and it is always a toss up of which natural phenomena comes out on top on a week to week basis. Typically The Crimson Tide can outlast The Green Wave (after all, water with red algae is much more dangerous than just water), but trying to see what wins between a large tidal wave filled with algal bloom and a hurricane of epic proportions composed primarily of urine is just really difficult. Consequently, I alternate voting them first on a week to week basis.
Though I do give preference to The Golden Hurricane during hurricane season and The Crimson Tide whenever it is "that time of the month."

Re: How we vote?
I group all teams based on number of losses with a minimum number of games played to qualify. My only stipulation is that I won't put a team with more than 1 loss than another team ahead of some teams. So no 2-loss team would make my poll until all the undefeateds were placed and so on. I then go to standings, click show strength of victory, and I use that as my main guide, along with head to head if applicable and strength of conferences also will come into play sometimes.

Re: How we vote?
SOS plays a HUGE role in the way I vote, especially with mid-majors (I give bigger conferences a little more leeway bc of the conf sched). If youre an 10-2 team but didnt play another ranked team at any point, Im probably not ranking you. I also look at Massey to get an idea of whats what, his formula does a pretty good job of weeding through the fluff

Shel, your SOS is gonna go way down if I don't start getting my act together. Then again, pretty sure you are gonna choke.

Re: How we vote?
I don't like how I vote.
(WTF?)
But, my goal is to take it seriously and do it in a reasonable amount of time. (15-30min) So I got to LD, open up an Excel document and then just start inserting teams. I build it new every week. (obviously, I'll remember where some people were ranked as compared to others) This system doesn't have the consistent week to week flow that some do, but I also think it avoids grandfathering in teams. In most cases, when I click on a team, I can see their SOS and I can even slot them as they compare to other teams that they've played or might be right beside in the rankings. And as someone else mentioned, it's extremely unlikely that I'll rank a 2 loss team over a 0 loss team, but I WILL put a 1 loss team over a 0 loss team, if I truly believe that the 1 loss team is better.

I need to play Biffy. Green Wave vs. Crimson Tide. Battle of the biggest forces of nature in the NDL (next to Volunteers of course, since Volunteer work trumped all the work the tsunamis did in the South East Asia)

Re: How we vote?
Voting AID is my crutch that's for sure.
I initially try not to go off LD's most recent games as a lot of them are played out of turn (e.g. a Week 2 game is played in the 3rd block). Only after looking at the Voting Aid and checking to see if a recent L came this block or awhile back. So I start with the last poll and work my way down. It's an imperfect science of jumping teams after big wins or letting another team hold their spot despite not getting a game in on time.

Re: How we vote?
SOS plays a huge part, not to mention it is hard as heck for me to ever vote for a non-bcs school, but every week is a new week, look at what's been played, how it has been played. I go in to LD and look at the game stats, and everything.
