Needed something with a tame Rule 5 this year

shel311 wrote:I don't think this is really correct either. First, why do you assume people don't know any better?
If you value a player simply on their potential rating, you dont know any better.
But what relevance is the potential? Couldnt you just say "I dont want to trade that player, I like him a lot." As you said, what matters is his skill ratings, not that he has a 75 potential rating.shel311 wrote:Generally, if someone says they don't want to trade player A because he's 75 overall, that IMO assumes they also like his skill ratings, using the 75 number is an easy way,
Its pretty obvious to tell who an elite player is. You dont need a rating to tell you hes an 80 for you to know hes an 80. Also, we're talking potential rating, not actual.shel311 wrote:But a team of 25 players rated 80 is going to always be better than a team with 25 players rated 70. And the team of 70s will be better than the 25 players rated 60. So it's not like there's no value at all to it.

Imagine criticizing someone whos trying to create conversation and discussion on a relevant topic instead of actually contributing to the discussion.DRWebs wrote:Imagine your only contribution to the boards is to argue that something you claim is arbitrary and has no value must be gotten rid of

Miguel, don't let some of the louder, entitled veterans get ya down.
We all appreciate ya bringing up some new ideas and fresh blood into the conversation as it makes the league better.
I don't necessarily agree with this one and voted no but thanks for your effort.

My question still stands, why do you assume people value players solely on potential rating?Neurotic wrote:If you value a player simply on their potential rating, you dont know any better.
Like I said, just because someone says they're not trading player A because he's 80 potential, that doesn't mean he's not trading him solely because he's 80 potential. It's just an easy, quick way to say that guy is really good.

The best part is if any NDLer had the chance to morph into Beefy in their old age, it would be George.

Search for Fred Thomas thread and read SIRLOIN's comments. Typical Beefy rants there.Graywolf357 wrote:He will always be beefy to me. You will have to tell me about the other one. Re: Remove the Player Potential Rating
I never understood the difficulty with trading.
Even with scouting on. Does it make it more difficult, sure but, give me a list of guys on my team you like, I will give you a list of guys on your team I like, then see if we can agree on a deal using the those names.

Teams that trade win. Teams that don't have to hope for a golden generation to come along.
