i think NBA just does the best job marketing and story telling.
and also the nature of basketball is such that 'stars' are created in college because a huge percentage of NBA players were their college teams ball dominant player. Their names are more familiar because they were 'stars' and as they move up the rankings, even if they become role players, we are very familiar with them.
in other sports thats not really the case... we don't know a first team offensive lineman at a MAC school who becomes back up offensive linemen in the NFL and shit like that. but we know Frank Kaminsky as he was the most popular athlete during that final 4 run and now hes depth fodder on random NBA teams.
but to your point, it is a pretty wide open race this year.
