Also, I think this is a mute point if it is a "Civil Union" rather than Marriage. Most of the devout Christians that I talk to is okay with the Civil Union concept but completely against the Marriage of two people of the same sex.
I mean they have no basis to claim to get "equal rights" to marriage, when marriage is an INSTITUTION OF GOD! They don't have the right to ask for the same recognition in the eyes of the Lord when the Lord has strictly forbidden exactly what they want!

I was engaged to a girl I dated for over three years. We did not have sex, and that was a decision we both made as CHRISTIANS. She had promised God she would save herself for marriage and she did. We eventually broke up, but from basically 20-24, I didn't have sex--the prime years of a guy's life--because of my beliefs. There were times where we COULD have (we fooled around and had quite a few times where we both wanted to say "to hell with it"), but we had made a commitment to ourselves and the Lord, and we resisted our selfish urges.
She and I split due to personal reasons, and she is engaged to get married this fall, and she has still held to her promise to God.
As for me, I told you before--I slip up. I have not WATCHED porn, in a very long time. I don't go to porn sites, I don't peruse nudie mags. it means asking for not only His forgiveness for that transgression, but also for the strength and the wisdom to keep from giving into that temptation again, or re-committing that sin.

biblically speaking, that would have nothing to do with your afterlife. the bible states that it comes down to one decision, and ironically enough it's the same decision pilate had to deal with: what do we do with Jesus? if we accept his gift to us, it's a regeneration of spirit (that's where the "born again" term comes from) that has an impact on our behavior. while no one will be sinless, it does have an impact on our desires, i.e. it will make the behavior you mentioned something that one might not want to take part in. it's about a submission to God's will vs our will. the bible isn't about a rule book in which we get strikes put against us. in fact, it tells us that all of us sin. the question is, what will we do with Jesus? the "rules" given in the bible are for our benefit, spiritually, emotionally, and physically.
there's a great c.s. lewis quote that fits the train of thought you're stating because it is a thought that many people share. it goes something like this:
"there are two kinds of people in the world: those who say to God, 'thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, 'thy will be done.'"
you stated that you respect everyone's choices and so do i. ultimately, so does God.

Ahh, the old Christian "Get of Jail Free Card". Yeah I love that one. I'll do what I want when I want and I'm fine as long as I acknowledge it and ask for forgiveness. Whoever thought that one up was a genius.
i believe in a single God. I believe that we at some point do get judged based on our actions. i try my best to not hurt people intentionally, i always think of the decisions b/w right and wrong when i do something.
to me thats what being a catholic christian is.
if you guys have your own ways of believing how you need to act before you are judged, i applaud you and i hope you find peace and comfort in your actions/decisions... just don't tell me what i have to do to be accepted by Jesus, thats where i get turned off and i think thats why most people move away from religion.
